| Biking in Europe in the winter questions. Mediterranean? Weather? etc |
|
Hello, have a friend who is wants to travel around Europe in a couple months, with a bike. I've referred to Mediterranean coast, wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it. Winter weather seems to be, well, wintery, and my take is around the Med the weather should be more temperate. Is this right? Any ideas of where to go, if you were a young fit person on your own starting in France. I am envious but am seeking help, please.

I would suggest south through France into Spain (Barcelona is a must see!) and then perhaps down along the coast. It is more moderate there and the sun will make more of an appearance. The warmest places this time of year will be southern Spain (Costa de Luz) and southern Portugal (Algarve, etc) Heading north and expecting decent weather depends on the month. Consult www.weather.com for cities in Italy, temp averages, hours of daylight.
Also, recommend that this person look into a Eurorail pass, I think you can take your bike on the trains too. :hi:
