Rise and shine travelers, I need a few suggestions. My other

half and I will be going to France in May, our adult daughter will come with us. She wants to go even though she will only have one week to fly into Paris, see the major sights-even briefly, then fly home a week later. We have the option of staying another week and think we'll go the the Alsace or Burgundy regions, plunk ourselves in an Inn someplace and do all the regional sights.

We've been to Paris twice and have seen many of the sights but are certainly willing to do them again with our daughter. What would you consider the best short-time-available sights...of course the
train to Versailles would be one of the days. I'm trying hard to pick general spots that she would like and not color our itinerary with our favorites.

1. A Frommers travel book would help widdle down the options, I think.

It helped me to avoid the over-rated tourist traps in London. :)

2. Cote d'Azur, Provence

are always lovely at this time of year, not too touristy, and beginning to get warm and sunny. My favorite time to go.

3. A Navi? What is that, a GPS? We have one but it will only

work stateside. Great gizmo though. Drive over 1000 miles to take care of Grandchildren in an area with which we were not familiar. Saved us many times. We could find things like soccer practice, the ice cream stand, the favorite Chinese restaurant...and then get back to my daughters house.

Wish it had Europe but that extra program is $$$.

4. depends on your system, some maps are

not that expensive. I have a Garmin. We were going to get a US model and buy the European map, but it was too expensive in the end, so we jsut bought the European model.

Yeah, navi is GPS. Don't know why but that's what I've always called it. You might be able to rent on if you get a car over here.

5. Off to Burgundy after saying good by to daughter at CDG.

Train to Dijon on Saturday, pick up the car(all car rental spots in area closed on Sunday). Spend Saturday in Dijon, then travel to Beaune and start seeing the sights around there. We'll head North-West as we go back to Paris, spend a night or 2 along the way. Leave car in Fontainebleau and take the train to CDG for our trip home. Next weekend starts the final planning stages. Hit one problem, can't find a room in Beaune. Have e-mailed several spots and received a "no vacancy" reply or no reply at all. That is very typical if there is nothing available. I'll try again today.
This was a trip planned for several years. Wish we had taken it sooner, the Euro sure looked better 3 years ago. Lots of picnics.

6. How was your trip?

Hope you had a nice time. The exchange rate for US is atrocious. Nobody is liking that!

7. We leave the 9th, and I am very nervous. With the rise in prices

and the horrible exchange rate, I've had to really keep quiet, not complain and just go and enjoy. We're not going to be able to do this again so it is now or forget it.

France will be fun, back to work when we return. I'll give you a trip report when we get home.
We've planned to do a lot of picnics and have only late breakfast and early dinner. Two meals a day will be sufficient and will save some money.

We are not big shoppers but are really going to see sights and relax with our daughter.
