| What can anyone tell me about San Jose, CA? |
|
I just interviewed with a place the other day. Things are going well. They're based there, and I might get to fly out. Never been before.
Anyplace good to eat? Better places to stay than others?
If I wanted to drive to the Sacramento area (Orangevale) from SJ, how difficult is the drive? Any recommended shortcuts? I'd probably be going out on a Saturday or Sunday. It looks like it's about the distance from Austin to Dallas for us Texans, so the length isn't a problem. I have a newly discovered cousin there I might like to visit (for my genealogy and family history that I'm writing).
I'm so glad we got this forum! fsc

| 1. you should cross post in the CA forum-- there are lots of bay area DUers.. |
|
Unfortunately, I can't be much help-- I'm six hours north, and hardly ever get down to the bay area. I certainly don't know it well enough to answer your questions.

| 3. Driving from SJ to Sacramento would be a nightmare |
|
SJ is in the South Bay area and is about one hour or so south of SF. Sacramento is about 2 hours north and east of SF. If you want to do it though, take the 880 north and then 80 east. There are many miles in between those two intersections, but that is the most direct route. You might look at 680 to 880, but I'm not sure about that.
I've flown in and out of SJ a few times, had a couple meetings there. There is a downtown street mall affair that is great place to wander, eat, etc. I think you can get to it from a local train.
Good luck with your job interview.

I was out there last year for a tech conference, and am going again this year. Good public transportation system. Lots of good places to eat in the downtown area. I found one really good Indian place, but I can't remember the name right now. Good luck!
