| We're driving from Lawrence, KS to Lubbock, TX this weekend |
|
Which is a 10 hour trip through most of Kansas, across Oklahoma and down into northwest Texas to Lubbock. We've never driven to Lubbock before; we're transplants from Colorado.... We're going to pick up our baby granddaughters (ages 2 and 10 months) and their daddy, and we have to turn around and drive right back home shortly after we get there. If Duers from any of those three states who know what to look for and look OUT for (good rest stops, points of interest, weird freeper truck stops, state trooper presence) along the way have any advice or tips, my daughter (the babies' mama) and my hubby and I would greatly appreciate it.
:hi:
Thanks, y'all! (practicing my Texan)

The only stop I remember ever making was some truck stop in Ok where you could have a cup of coffee and take a quick stroll in a "tunnel" that spans the interstate.
When you get to the panhandle, watch out for the tumbleweeds - they can be the size of your car. And the jackrabbits are huge.
Lubbock is not a bad town - quite red however. I lived in an area around the Texas Tech campus. That area is quite nice. I can think of nothing to recommend you that not miss, however.
Enjoy the Mexican food - much better than you will ever get in Lawrence.
btw - I spend quite a bit of time in Lawrence having relatives there. My son is also applying to pharmacy school there. So perhaps will be spending even more time there. I enjoy Mass Ave. Used to live in Topeka, so Lawrence was like an oasis to us.

We'll watch out for giant jackrabbits and tumbleweeds. :) We'll be in and out of Texas so fast there may not be time to partake of the Mexican food.
About Lawrence: We love it here. We moved here from Denver 6 years ago and haven't regretted it. It IS an oasis. I hope your son gets into KU; maybe we can meet for coffee sometime. :hi:
