Lalo Alcaraz has the only syndicated chicano comic strip in the world. The LA Times recently cancelled him. It raised a ruckus and so many letters reached the Times that after one day's cancellation, the Times recanted and will recommence running Alcaraz' comic strip. The power of the pen, gente!

From the LA Times' website:'La Cucaracha' comic returning
Note to Readers:
March 6, 2007
"La Cucaracha," one of several comics dropped this week as part of a shift in The Times' daily and Sunday print edition feature lineup, is returning to The Times' daily comics pages starting Wednesday. We decided to bring it back after hearing from so many of our readers who follow the comic strip loyally. "La Cucaracha" will return to our Sunday pages starting March 25.
To make room for the change, "Healthcliff" is being dropped Monday through Saturday along with "Mallard Fillmore," "Candorville" and "Mr. Boffo."
Letter from the comics editor Sherry Stern:Thanks for your email about "La Cucaracha." I'm happy to tell you that because of notes like yours, we're bringing the comic strip back starting Wednesday in the daily Calendar section, and on March 25 on Sundays. As you know, it was one of several comics we had recently dropped as part of a shift in our Sunday feature lineup, but when we heard from readers like you, we realized that the strip had such a large and loyal following that it should continue to appear on our pages.
Once again, thank you so much for telling us what you think. We're glad you care enough about The Times to take the time to write.
Sincerely,
Sherry Stern
