Really pissed right now...

Just saw the media circus on the news over the fallen socal soldier. It is horrible, and very sad. But I'm pissed because they did NOT do this sort of coverage for all the latino/hispanic or black solidiers that have come home in body bags in southern california. I'm sorry, maybe this is hideous of me. I'm not saying it's not horrible that a boy of ANY RACE dies in this disgusting war. But I'm saying that I'm disgusted that the media puts weight on "the caucasian male" that dies, and not the others.

Did people not love the kids of color? Do they not have families and loved ones that suffer their loss as well?

I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned it's racist bullshit. I just called the local news channels I saw covering this and told them so. They sounded taken aback, but actually admitted my concern was valid.

If this concerns you, please call and tell them so.
The media should not be allowed to put more value on some lives than others.

If they are going to cover soldier's funerals--do them all. Not just the ones that come from middle class to wealthy communities.

and thanks for the reminder. I'd temporarily forgotten about the attention paid in regard to those issues, too.

I'm glad that at least here in Socal they will announce on the news when a child of color is missing, due to Amber alerts. But I wonder if it's a busy news day if those children would be mentioned at all. (sorry to sound cynical)

I started a thread on this in Gd, but asked for it to be deleted. I don't want to stir either, and I know for some the whole issue becomes so divisive. At the time, I just needed to vent and be heard about how unfair the issue is.

It pains me to see so many kids of color giving their lives for this war. :cry:
