No more TELENOVELAS for Utah inmates |
http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,640194380,00.html After getting numerous complaints about the raunchy shows and inmates hogging the television, jail commanders decided Tuesday to pull the Spanish-language TV channel Univision from the cable line-up pumped into the jail's 15 common area TVs. "It was dividing the inmates," said Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Brian Locke. "Some wanted to watch it, some didn't want to watch it and it just got worse and worse and it all came back to that channel."

1. So he yanked the whole channel? Algo no me suena. |
Sounds like maybe the sheriff just wanted to get rid of Spanish TV and used telenovelas as an excuse. I guess "Desperate Housewives" doesn't upset him.

2. I Think this is Classified as a Law suit about Racism in the Prison system |
Why didn't they block out the channels for those who wanted other channels? Racism, pure and simple.

3. There are Hispanics in Utah? |
Por suerte, I never saw one and I had to go cruising through Utah, and actually live there short periods of time in DH's need to see the West. To be truthful in my mind, Utah is populated by the whitest people I have ever seen in most of the USA that I have been privileged to visit. Now I never found the locals to be racist or bigoted. They really weren't, but they were extraordinarily light, light, blond and light, light blue eyed. I wonder what the statistics are for skin cancer among them because the state is a lot of really bright desert?
I did learn from an ex-Utahn friend that it was hard to get jobs in Utah if you didn't get a reference from your bishop or something like that. so it makes me wonder that there are hispanic inmates there, unless other states are shipping their hispanic inmates to Utah. Is that a possiblity?
