Calling all CHICANOS: "All Mexican Kids are racist"

Someone responded to one of my threads with this mierda.

...do you mean the Hispanic kids in American schools who are taught to hate whites AND blacks, and perpetrate violence on non-Hispanic kids on a daily basis?

but still, I recognize that race- and flamebaiting piece for what it is: a mashup of confusion.

I'm mulling over a reply. On the one hand, I think a frontal engagement of the fundamentally fallacious rational of that post deserves a careful dissection. On the other hand, it's damn tempting to just smack it down as bull.

Meanwhile, I think this article in El País raises a few interesting points. Especially given the organization on which the article focuses. My point here: there's no race war. There's simply a line separating de facto racists and bigots from the majority. A line defined by information and rational consideration.

That poster has consistently exhibited hostility towards Latinos. I don't know what else to say. I put up a response that I fear violated DU rules but, frankly, that was the only response possible to that mierda.

don't know much about the rules of this place but it struck me as not exceptional. the handle has over 1000 posts, so i suppose it sometimes has less worthless things to say? quien sabe. ni modo. tipos of that ilk are a daime a dozen.

8. Our mods deleted that post. You know, I feel completely creeped out

knowing that so much hatred is being fanned up against Latinos. I don't look Latina unless you know how to look but plenty of my cousins have big brown eyes and curly dark hair and beautiful piel canela. Which means, so do their kids. Heck, here in San Francisco, three of my peeps have married Filipino wives and their kids are drop dead gorgeous. And, I'm afraid of the HATRED they will be walking into.

How we went from the promise of JFK to these screaming haters is just so terribly sad. I wish I wasn't so viejita because there's so much fighting back to do. :(

15. so this anglo woman in a big white chrysler imperial...

drives up and pulls to the curb.

my cousins and i were walking back from downtown san bernardino where we'd gone to the show--a movie about an apache named "Esquina" and we were laughing our tiny little brown asses off about "corner" and who would get to play the role once we got back to their house. we'd reached the Goodwill store (where my primos bought all their clothes) when out of the blue the big car pulls to the side of the street next to us. she had our attention and we stopped. down rolled her passenger window. she leans toward us and screams, "you filthy little mexicans!" and drives away.

we stood there stunned in the intensity of the moment. then we burst out in spontaneous wild peals of laughter. gad, we enjoyed that!

This musta been like 1955, long before JFK hit the hustings. Whatever promise Camelot brought, incidents like that kept us keenly aware of the limits that other people wanted to put on us.
