Got a double dose today

One of our best friends called this morning and said her mother had passed at 2:00 am. SHe was a ten yr survivor of breast cancer, but the cancer returned and had spread to her liver and other organs. She was 89, and was unbelievably spry and alert for her age.
Hospice took her home.

This afternoon, my mom called and said her PET scan lit up two nodes. She'll be going in for a biopsy, but it looks like lymphoma.
She has been losing a lot of weight and experiencing chronic fatigue, two other factors that do not bode well. We're keeping our fingers crossed, though.

Kinda got the blues today, it's raining, and it Monday.

4. Mom had biopsy today, it's lymphoma

The pathologist was there and confirmed it was lymphoma. Don't know what type yet, should find out by Monday. She is pretty upbeat about it, but I think we all know what she is going thru right now.

She had pneumonia about two or three months ago, and they did some scans to make sure she did not have lung cancer. Her lungs are clear, but her radiologists noticed the lit up nodes and decided they should look into it further. That's how they found it. It may be good that they have found it a little early, but until we get the pathology, it's a guessing game.

5. my friend's husband was dx'ed with lymphoma

15 years ago. Had a lot of different treatments, but it kept coming back.

Finally, 2.5 years ago, he had a stem-cell transplant- his brother was the donor- and he is doing very well- no signs of recurrence. He's 61.

I also had a transplant from an unrelated donor to cure my leukemia, and am also doing well almost a year later.

That's really good to hear! I lost a friend to leukemia about this time last year.

We just got the pathology report on Mom today. The news was.........unexpected, to say the least. All three nodes tested came back negative! I'm not sure what's going on. The pathologist was there when they did the disection of the nodes, and he said it appeared to be some kind of lymphoma. Obviously, they CAN make mistakes! And what a good mistake it was. At the time, we felt he was just softening us up for the blow to come. Been there, done that.

Anyway, my mom was really overjoyed to get the news. She has been really upbeat and strong through this ordeal, but she let it out today and cried for hours....tears of joy!

She is still dealing with the weight loss and arthritis, and we're still not sure what caused the sudden weight loss. It might be related to the Zocor she was taking for cholesterol. She stopped taking it a couple of weeks ago to see if it was affecting her.

We sure have something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! May God bless you and your family this holiday season!

You know, both my mom and I have had cancer scares this year. It'll probably get us eventually, but not now.

I do think of you every day when I'm on DU. Like most, I don't really know what to say, but just want you to know there are those of us who care. Most people our age have friends or relatives who confront cancer, if not ourselves. Though my wife has been cancer free for 6 years, every time something odd pops up, you can't help but wonder if the cancer is trying to make a comeback.
It's something you just have to live with.
