I guess I might post more later. I've just come back from the doctor and am a little befuddled. Not too worried though.

But they're taking it out next Wednesday and I know I'm going to need a very good, strong, comfortable bra and don't know where to go for it. 48D.

3. You need to go try on bras because you will wear this for

48+ hours. I got fixated on this with my surgery and it's the one thing you can do to make yourself more comfortable. My Mom who knows how to sew adjusted one for me and it made the difference. Make it comfortable for you. It makes a difference. I would also recommend buying lots of ice packs. Their pretty cheap right now and you will appreciate having many spares to change. Also splurge on the medical icepacks. I bought one (about $35) and it was the best.

Please contact me if it ends up that it's cancer. I've caught mine early and you'll survive it. :hug: Cally who bought more bras than in my entire life during this phase.

7. Any sports - type bra that hooks in the front

will do fine for recovery. Get one a size larger than you usually wear, just in case to compensate for swelling and bandage. I bought mine at K-Mart - used them after my bilateral mastectomy.

Ask your surgical oncologist or his nurse, they should have some suggestions. Be careful of the ones w/ velcro fasteners in the front, they can be stiff and scratchy.

Are they doing an excisional biopsy or lumpectomy? The surgery isn't all that bad, incisions are very small, you should be feeling fine in a day or so.

Is it a lumpectomy? I actually wore my own bras after my lumpectomy, but the ice pack suggestions are a must. Ice was the real relief and I just wore the pack inside my own bra. Of course, I was very small boob-wise, so bras didn't make that big a difference for me as I was a sports bra person anyway. Please do try to find the front closure, though. It will be easier on you. Amoena sells mastectomy bras online.

Have they said if you will need a different procedure if the final lab shows DCIS? Please post after you have the surgery and get the final path report. I'll be thinking of you next Wednesday and sending vibes for a benign path.

10. Yes, lumpectomy, I think.

I can't wear my own bras. I can barely tolerate them as it is. I already slept in one after the stereotactic biopsy -- well, I went to bed in one. I didn't sleep much.

I don't know what comes after this surgery. I am not very happy with the surgeon. His bedside manner is miserable. When he told me the news I think he spent three minutes in the room with me and my partner. "You might have cancer, we're going to take it out, they'll schedule it up front." Those weren't his words -- oh, no. He used med speak. :grr: But at this point I don't care. He has a good rep as a general surgeon, and the hospital has a GREAT team, so I just want to get it over with at this point.

If there's something after this lumpectomy, I will not go to this surgeon again.
