I'm rocking back and forth involuntarily |
|
Do any other cancer patients have this annoying behavior? This has been going on for months now. My body seems to need the movement. I don't remember doing this when I was on chemo. It just started out of nowhere. I sit down and start rocking or if I'm laying down I roll back and forth. No, I'm not being silly with the rock and roll analogy; it's just what happens to me. Is it because of my cancer?

1. I just saw this post.... and wondered if the 'rocking'.. |
|
isn't kind of a stress reliever... I remember my son, rocking his head as a young child when he became ill once... it was the one time he stayed in his crib all day... which was very unusual, of course.
Perhaps we got him antibiotics, and he cleared up in a day or two..... but the head rocking became a habit.... I think the rhythmic motion soothed him in some way... so for years and years later... he rocked his head to get to sleep. after the chemo stopped, I constantly felt anxious about it's return. Until a wise Oncologist said this to me:
"We cure lymphoma, so that you can carry on with your life.... and not become phobic about bacteria !"
(I was contemplating returning to work: in the health care profession) ... but after that... all I heard when my mind started to focus on "could that be the cancer returning".... Is that lovely Dr's rather commanding voice " We CURE lymphoma, so you can return to your life..
"We CURE lymphoma".....and my mind and my whole self is eased... Because in our heart & soul we feel that the Dr tells the truth!
He did me a great favour, a very perceptive physician.
The stress and angst are sometimes hard to deal with...
Good Luck .. and Best Wishes... and listen to my Dr's voice... :)

2. My wife does that..... |

....when she is worried.....and she's worried. Eight years ago, on Christmas morning, she discovered a lump in her breast that turned out to be breast cancer. After a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, the cancer was gone. A year later, she contracted scarlet fever (result of strep infection), which had attached itself to her implants. Again, they were removed and another reconstruction was done. She has been cancer free for eight years...a blessing. In early October, she came down with the shingles. Not that unusual for a 60 yr old, but unlike my experience with them, which lasted two weeks, she still has them. So, she's been feeling pretty rotten lately. Then she started having some more problems with her GI tract accompanied by shooting pains in her back. A sonogram was done on her gall bladder. The gall bladder was fine, but the sonogram revealed lesions on her liver. So we are now awaiting results of a CT scan yesterday and a scheduled bone scan Monday. It doesn't look good. So, I caught her rocking back and forth again. I know she's scared...I am, too.
It is what it is. If rocking is what you do, do it.
