Any suggestions on what to do about gradual hearing loss?

Over the past 10 years my hearing has been in the decline and it's getting pretty annoying to have my wife yell at me, "does the T.V. have to be that loud?" every time I turn on the TV. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to prevent my hearing from deteriorating anymore than it has? I don't think it's hereditary since everyone in my family has great hearing except for me and I am not involved in any type of work where I am surrounded by loud noises so I can't quite figure out whats causing it.

Just turn on the captioning instead of turning up the sound, and your wife won't complain.

2. My audiologist says: The sooner (younger) you start wearing hearing aids

The better the chance to make new neural connections to arrest the decline for some time, and maybe even improve it some (but, you would still need the hearing aids)

Started wearing aids 4 years ago at age 49. Within a year, hearing in my left ear improved some and has remained stable soince then.

Up to you, but you may want to consider getting aids. :hi:

I am going to go get this checked out as soon as possible, I am only 33 and the thought of serious hearing loss is pretty scary.

5. Go to the doctor

If you have insurance. My hearing loss is due to something wrong with my cochlea. I haven't gone back for the MRI to find out what exactly. It will require surgery and there is a prosthesis that can be put in the ear. I had gradual hearing loss too, late 30's or so. I thought it was hereditary, because my dad lost his hearing at the same age. Well, it wasn't. Maybe there will be a surgery that can fix your ear too.
