2. I can understand her being upset |
|
but she ends up hurting others that hand no hand in this what so ever. Why punish the children of California for this. By not paying her taxes she is taking dollars out of the state budget for school funding, not to mention all the social service that are provided for children of lower class families. If she wants to punish someone, go after the adults, but please don't do anything to hurt the children. Plus is not her anger misplaced, it was not the state legislature that passed this law, it was the people of the state that voted this into law. So why even punish the state for something that was done by the people that live their. If you wish to punish anyone boycott those that helped pass this bill, speak with your dollar, and only shop and support those businesses and organizations that support a gay friendly agenda.

She's not accorded the full rights of citizenship, why should she be expected to exercise the full responsibilities of citizenship?

8. Punish the children of California? Don't be ridiculous. |

Let the parents pay more taxes then, or make the Mormon church pay for those taxes. Gays are being treated as sub-human, so why should they pay taxes?

10. YEP! & people better be careful - Gays & singles w/0 kids pay a lot of taxes for schools, city, st |
|
that go to caring for families with kids' needs such as schooling, city health dept medical coverage, and state agencies that live off the taxes of some very prominent straight singles without children, and gay people without children - so if they wanna fight - we'll fight - because if ALL the people aren't going to be represented, then why pay taxes!

Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 08:36 PM by Lost-in-FL
and if we were gay living in CA right now, I would NOT pay a penny in taxes until my rights to marry were fully restored. I am tired of the church getting involved in this type of crap.

ALL of the people are NOT being represented and THAT is the argument all the way to the highest court. I am so angry over Prop 8, so many people in all of our lives being so hurt. NOT FAIR!

17. The people of CA are punishing HER CHILDREN. I guess you think THEY deserve no equality. |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 11:18 AM by PelosiFan
The people of California are taking dollars away from HER children and have been for a very long time, while she has been paying taxes to support those SAME people's children. How fucking insulting for you to accuse HER of taking money away from others.

because that is generally the outcome if you get caught. Look at Robert Hatch from Survivor.

16. Understand the sentiment, but not a good tactic... |
|
This tactic has been tried by numerous groups protesting causes real and imagined. It never works and often the people doing it are just thrown in jail, with no benefit to their cause.
I think there are lots more productive ways to benefit this cause.

I just don't think they see this as a legal way to protest discrimination.

|
Once again, probably limited chance of success.
I still think there must be some other way to get this to the Supreme Court without potentially causing yet more harm to someone else's life.

24. It's a bit of a reach to say that her not paying taxes will cause harm to anyone's life. |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 04:39 PM by PelosiFan
A HUGE reach actually. There has been so much more harm caused to gay families in the area of taxes that it comes across as pretty idiotic to make the claim that one person not paying taxes as a matter of principle causes ANYONE harm.
My son may not be able to afford to go to college, because I am not able to benefit from filing jointly with his natural mother and receiving the tax relief I would if we were married, that I could put away for his later education. That's harm. And that's harm that Americans are doing me and my family.
I think it makes perfect sense for Melisa to do it this way. I admire her courage and resolve in doing so.

Or do civil unions give couples less rights that marriage?
