|
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 01:02 PM by ihavenobias
Also check out these videos/articles you may have missed (as well as my polite rant at the end):
You can hear the Young Turks on your morning drive on XM 167 or 24 hours a day at www.theyoungturks.com.
And if you like Rachel Maddow, Michael Moore, John Cusack, Bernie Sanders, Jonathon Alter, David Sirota, Margaret Cho, Marcy Wheeler or Darcy Burner, why haven't you checked out the new show yet?

1. It wasn't yet written when she became mayor. I think that's what she meant. nt |

14. Because the book-banning occured when she just became mayor. At that time, |
|
Potter wasn't out yet, so it is possible she was referring to that time. That's all. I loathe that woman, but fair is fair.

2. Obviously she only regurgitates information fed to her. |
|
Apparently by idiots. Her reasoning is flawed, but here's snopes take on the matter: http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/bannedbooks.asp

4. The annoying thing is that the bogus banned book list is a straw-man |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 01:22 PM by ihavenobias
Yes, the book list is bogus BUT the conversation about banning books (if you accept the librarian's take, and I trust her a whole lot more than Palin) is true.
Unfortunately the average person (not you I'm referring to here, think average low-info voter) watches or reads a fact check that says 'FALSE: The banned book list is fake". Then they assume the *whole story* is fake, but that's not the point.
I'm actually very annoyed at whoever came up with that fake list. It reminds me of the McCain Vicki Iseman story. Why did the NY Times over-reach by suggesting an affair when the lobbyist connection was the more substantive and factual story?
Once the affair was seemingly debunked the baby (lobbyist connection) was thrown out with the bathwater and it became a dead issue instead of what could and should have become a relevant one.

8. WHAT? No big deal? Bulls*t!!! Its a very big deal. |
|
Its a very BIG Deal when .. a pathological liar and ignorant and delusional nutcase runs for (and holds) high public office. Why, people, we could even end up in a war over nonexistent WMD, for God sake! A million people could die! WTF!
So this is Sarah's defense. I never tried to ban Harry Potter, and I can prove that (the charge is ludicrous because... ) I couldn't have done it because Potter wasn't even written yet! So there! (look of triumph).
Yikes. This isn't a mistake or "innocent lie". Palin knows she attempted to pressure the Wasilla librarian into removing certain books in the library collection (including Potter series)which had been placed there using procedures and standards accepted by PUBLIC libraries throughout the US (in compliance with Federal Law), and when the librarian declined (to unlawfully censor the books), Sarah made the librarian's life miserable to the point where the librarian eventually left. Thems the facts, folks.
We all know Sarah Palin as an ignorant bigot. We know her as an abusive executive manager, (and also have a serious concern there is abuse in the family). We know that she has NO regard (not just little regard, or reckless disregard, but NO regard) for the truth, and she has learned to delude herself into a state of suspended reality so she can tell the big lie without blinking. A Pathological liar.
NO BIG DEAL? I BEG TO DIFFER! ITS A BIG DAMN DEAL.

9. Cenk misses the real significance of Palin's comment. |
|
It confirms that the conversation with the librarian about the mayor's authority to ban certain books indeed took place when Palin first took office.

10. The tricky thing is that these youtube clips are just excerpts from the show |
|
Often times the discussion on XM is much longer, but the clips are edited because, well, almost no one watches youtube clips if they're too long.
And per my comment above you can see that I agree the larger issue is that she had a serious discussion about book banning, regardless of if Harry Potter was specifically discussed or not.

But I'm not into the Avada Kedavra; I don't believe in capital punishment. But Gitmo, er, Azkaban would be a good place for her!

17. Sorry Sara, I just don't believe a word you say. |
|
She latches on to the fact that she only is accused of wanting to ban books BEFORE the Potter series came out, as if that makes the attempted ban acceptable because someone got a minor factoid wrong.
No remorse. Nothing to see here. Fundies truly scare me. In fact the most horrifying book I've ever read is "The Handmaiden's Tale."
