| Is it just me or is there 1000% more thread locking here than on GD or GDP? |
|
I'm upset. I admit it. I've been on DU for 9 years. I've been through all the battles Nader/Hillery etc but this one is either worse or bugs me more.
And throughout it all, the nastiest, vile, language has been used against Rahm, Obama, Pelosi and Reid.
And those threads don't get locked even though they are on sections that should be open to all, that are more "public" so to speak.
So I find this group, the DUU, a place where those of us who find the trashing of democrats over the top and we call them leftbaggers and the thread gets locked.
I'm completely losing it with this place. Those of us who think you keep the worst trashing of your own to yourself have to hide in a corner and even there we're not allowed to speak freely.
While a huge democratic community tears the party to shreds with impunity.
Maybe it just bugs me more. Maybe its because I'm scared we'll lose Teddy's seat and then for those of us who "grew up" "Under" the Kennedys it truly will be over.
The dream ain't living on for me today.

| 2. Hamlette, have you thought about emailing the mods for this |
|
group about your frustration? There is a link in the top righthand corner of the group that has the list of the mods for the forum.
Also, are you alerting on the threads, or individual posts, that you find offensive? I just alerted on one in one of the big forums where we were called a name, and in my alert message to the mods, I said that if using names like leftbagger and such are not appropriate here, then negative words describing the BOG posters are also not appropriate.
It's frustrating, I know, but if enough of us alert on an inappropriate thread or post, the mods often DO respond.

| 3. No, it's not just you...I've seen all kinds of name calling and I've |
|
alerted on stuff that sat for days. This forum is under the microscope it seems. Cheerleader, Corpocrats etc. is fine...but those of us who support the President cannot respond in kind. Muck it.

| 4. Thread locked earlier today.... |
|
We were discussing nicknames for the crybabies in GD and GDP and the thread was locked because the Mods thought it was "calling out," which I thought a little strange since we didn't mention any specific member by name or even allude to anyone specifically.
There's one set of rules in this forum, but one set of rules for everybody else.

j/k! DU seems to be of two personalities. There's the loyal Dem group and then there's the not so loyal (far left?) Dems with the non-Dems. Another way to look at it is that there are the pragmatists and the purists.
Neither side can convince the opposite about who is right and who is wrong so one is limited to shouting down and/or driving the other out.

| 9. "The irony is deep here" comment and the generic "Moderator" |
|
was unusual. I'm not sure what angle they were using in that statement, but it was not what I expected to see.

It's business as usual at the Big Forums and if we make one comment, there are 5 mean spirited responses.
What's the deal?

| 7. Mine was actually a joke about name calling. |
|
I had one for them and one for us based on the repubs names based on what they said about the French recently and the Germans during WWII. It may be what helped get us locked, I don't know.

| 10. the point of this subforum is to discuss Obama and his policies not other DU'ers directly/indirectly |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 11:40 AM by KittyWampus
that's why those threads are locked.

| 11. ooops. My bad. I thought this group was for democrats to talk about how to help Obama. |
|
I didn't know it was limited to a discussion of his policies.
Anyone know of a place on DU (or the web) where we can talk about what this all means and to explore if there is anything that can be done to save the party from the crybabies (Disclaimer: The word crybaby was carefully chosen so that it does not say anything bad about any dem or poster on DU (although I've been called far worse on DU with nothing happening). And anyway. I"m outta here. I misunderstood the purposes of this group.)
Bye.

| 13. I"m not upset with this group. I just thought by the discussions I'd seen here |
|
that we were allowed to talk about more than Obama's policies.
I'll come back if there is a policy issue I want to discuss.
I was looking for some support without being trashed for supporting the democratic party and its president.
I misunderstood what this group was about.

| 15. the moderators have been pretty lenient in allowing us to discuss issues with GD and GDP |
|
but lock threads they deem falling too far astray.
There is a thread in this subforum on other political websites we like to visit. Some great suggestions.

|
Do yourself a favor and don't expect sympathy on the internet. It does happen at times, but you've got to view that as an unexpected bonus.
I don't think you misunderstand this group. Most of us seem to get a positive experience here and I haven't noticed anyone abusing you. If they are let me know I'll kick their ass for you. :)
