Poll question: Should posts approving of or advocating for Obama being hung in effigy get an immediate ban from DU? |
|
This is behavior that, in my opinion, shouldn't be allowed on ANY website, much less DU. But I want to know if I'm wrong here. And yes, this happening on DU, though rules prohibit me from point them out.

2. There is no excuse for 'hanging in effigy' any President. |
|
If someone has a disagreement with something a President does, express it in words. Silly things like hanging someone in effigy are for ignorant cowards.

I have seen Toombstones for much less than that. I wish there was some consistency in enforcing the rules on DU.

7. Absolutely. OTOH it just goes to show that racism is certainly |
|
part of "some" people's opposition to this president.

And I certainly wouldn't expect it to be condoned.

9. The opposition to him is so illogical at times that I have |
|
unfortunately come to the conclusion that it is at the core of a few people's dislike of him. He is certainly no more of a rightist or centrist than Bill Clinton. Yet Bill Clinton is revered by some of the same people who hate Obama.
There are 2 differences of course. Bill Clinton is a southernor and Obama is not. Bill Clinton is white and Obama is not. Now, I have seen anti-South folks on DU because of all the blue dogs from that region. So you would think there would be MORE objection to Clinton on that basis, wouldn't you? I have never seen an anti-North or anti-Hawaii crowd here.
That leaves race.

10. In my own personal experience... |
|
Anti-North folks, particularly those not inclined to be a part of a Confederate flag kind of thing, don't seem to do the whole "group" thing. In fact, they're usually not very overt about it at all. Believe me, with my travels through the south, that famed "southern hospitality" goes away once they hear your accent. I had a fiancee once with a southern accent, and the difference in treatment never ceased to amaze me. (I'm white, so race goes out the window.) It's just something that happens.

17. So-called "southern hospitality" is a myth. It's veneer over |
|
particle board. Fake as could be. I'm sure there are a few really kind people in the south, but on the whole, considering the politicians they elect, that "southern hospitality" is nothing but veneer over particle board. Just my opinion.

... and people accused me of being ... well, I won't repeat all I was accused of being ... when I posted a detailed essay on that very thing.
The protests were enough that I at least questioned my conclusion and began an active period of observation in search of evidence one way or another.
That search has ended entirely this evening.

job cleaning up the most vile examples. Any time something like this happens I realize how difficult their job is and I appreciate them all the more for it.

Why on Earth would such talk (or images) be allowed now?
If you've seen them, I trust you've promptly Alerted. I find that works very well, especially if I've done a little research on the poster (i.e. 98 posts in 3 days) and share it with the Mod.

I just don't get that part~ I thought we are suppose to support the party not be cheer leaders to tear it down??

Not only is it fucked up bullshit, but I would think that that goes far, far beyond any reasonable debate of, or criticism of our Democratic President. This is DU, right? I've gotten lost lately, thinking DU's been infiltrated by teabaggers or some such thing

DU'ers especially should be above all of this, but obviously there are people who are traitors in the midst.
BTW, let's remember that racism is RAMPANT in many other areas of the country other than the south so please don't broad-brush those of us who for one reason or another live down here. We (my liberal friends and I) do our best to bring about change as mightily as we can.
