Dems using recorded votes on non-controversial bills to stall as all members assemble,
Reps tried to ask a Parliamentary inquiry as to why a 15 minute vote was held open for 25 minutes, overruled as not a proper parliamentary inquiry.
Like they have room to talk, remember when they held a vote open almost all night to twist arms.

Did anyone else just see that exchange where some GOP weasel wanted to know why the previous vote took 25 minutes (stalling, obstructing), and the Chair looked at him like he was stupid and said, ""The Chair will not entertain any further inquiries," then announced the next vote.
This is the way to go. The GOP has all sorts of plans to show their ass today (excuse my language, especially on a Sunday); do they remember they held their unfunded Medicare Part D vote open for THREEE HOURS in order to arm-twist votes?
Go, Chair, go!

Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 02:32 PM by RoyGBiv
Republicans are asking questions to which they already know the answers, playing word games, spending 5 minutes grilling the speaker over whether a rep was allowed to use all of his ten seconds or not.
Nuts.
OnEdit: I think I figured it out. The Repubs are confused and think this is the NCAA tournament. They're trying to get time put back on the clock after a flubbed in-bound pass. Or something.
And the ref is having none of it.

If not, and if the Repubs manage to keep this up, you'll be able to get home, make a sandwich, and watch a movie before anything gets done.
BTW, if you haven't seen it from other threads, the Repubs were actually encouraging disruptors in the gallery. They started shouting, and a few Repubs egged them on even as the disruptors were being escorted out of the building.
Then three other Repubs hung a sign of some sort from a balcony inciting a crowd outside gathered for a "Kill the Bill" rally.

Off the current topic, I got into an e-mail exchange with him many years ago when he was a freshman. He has a deep interest in history and had run across a website I'd just opened dealing with Confederate general James Longstreet. (Longstreet, R.E. Lee's second in command, was notable for many reasons, not the least of which was that he became a Republican after the war and argued in favor of suffrage for former slaves. White southerners didn't much like him after that.) We had a nice, long chat over several months about the Reconstruction era and the extremely difficult political environment that took hold in the South during it. I was highly impressed and more than a little flattered he took so much time discussing things with me.
Anyway ...

I actually made sure I cleared my schedule so I could hang out here today from time to time. Win or lose, I want to be close to fellow travelers.
I chose this over an NCAA tournament watch party with a 60" screen, free beer, and an enormous pot of chili (it snowed yesterday and is COLD here). College basketball, beer (especially the free variety), and chili are three of my top five favorite things, so I was pretty serious about it to choose the BOG and CSPAN.
Although, I do admit, I went over earlier and got some of the chili and watched the last half of Michigan State and Maryland. :)

I'm UTTERLY DISGUSTED with this collection of sociopaths, liars, and pipsqueaks. (Not that I wasn't before).
In the EIGHT HOURS I've heard them, not once have I heard them refer to ANYONE in their districts and what the human cost of their opposition to this bill will be and why they are still justified in opposing the bil (well, no surprise there.) Not once have I heard them mention human beings (except to lie about doomsday scenarios they've cooked up). All I've heard about are numbers, process, and points of order. And every single one of them simply lying, lying, lying.
Ugh. This will be a magnificent moment, but I truly wonder how much longer this country can hang together with the kind of ferocious and in some cases, openly racist, idiots who now represent the "Grandstand. Oppose. Postpone" party.
