As we want Obama to spend every waking second on the Gulf, Korea explodes... |
|
Edited on Mon May-24-10 02:47 PM by Drunken Irishman
As if Our Guy doesn't have enough to deal with, now he's facing the real possibility of war in Korea.
But it's fine, I guess. Why should he bother with those damn Koreans? If he isn't giving 110% to the Gulf disaster, he's failing. :eyes:

2. I understand people feeling as though he needs to be not just on top of the oil spill issue |
|
but under and beside it too.
But as usual, it's the deafening roar of criticism compounded by an absolute dearth of ideas that is just BEYOND pissing me off at this point. I am so damn tired of seeing the SAME NAMES who are always screaming that Obama's not doing enough or screwing up now screaming that he's not doing enough on the oil spill and then when someone asks them point blank "what should he do?" have either the most inane and idiotic suggestions (nationalize BP) or more frequently, respond with "I don't know what he should be doing but he needs to do it soon!"
We get CNN and Fox here as well as Good Morning America and the Today show. I also just discovered that Meet the Press comes on at some unGodly hour here so I've seen some of the American coverage of this issue and folks pretending that he's not "taking this seriously" are full of hot crap. He has flown there, he has given pressers, he's got his administration working and speaking out, and he's creating committees to get to the heart of this issue. On top of all of that, he's calling for investigations of BP and looking into possible criminal activity at the company. What the hell else do people believe that he should be doing??
And this situation with Korea is NO JOKE and one that I've been keeping a very close eye on for the last month or so. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

3. Well, as Democrats, we are by nature environmentalists. |
|
Half the time, we have people running around as though the world's end were imminent in the next 5 years. So when something this catastrophic happens to the environment, extreme panic sets in. I think that's what we're experiencing here. Couple that with some assholes here that will use any opportunity to bash Obama (and that some of them are the same people in the first place), and well, DU moves into DefCon 1.
Plus, I think people lack an understanding of just how unprecedented this is. There's no off-the-shelf plan for something like this. In fact, the off-the-shelf plan was a lot of prevention that failed due to improper maintenance. This situation is like if we were to have an alien defense system that no one bothered to keep running because of the off-chance that we'd have an alien invasion. Then aliens invade, the prevention system failed, and no one really knows what to expect because aliens have never invaded. So everyone expects Obama to reach a diplomatic agreement with the alien overlords because he's our president and that's what we expect them to do, except he doesn't know how to speak Zxxiyian and has no experts that can either, so he needs to figure out a way to communicate AND put together a peace accord that will satisfy aliens who have indeterminable motives all at the same time.
