It could just be the stress of the campaign or the 24 hour flu but the clips they showed of him trying to diss Romney today, he looked flat out old and very low on energy.
It made me wonder, if he was to have a serious health issue, would he have to disclose it, or would they as a matter of course just cover it up during the primaries and figure it out later?

1. Once in a while, we need to hear from Hunter Thompson on politics. |
|
Of Ed Muskie, he wrote, "(Muskie) sounded like a farmer with terminal cancer asking for a loan on next year's crop."
John McCain comes to mind in the memory of that quotation.

You know how they all get really hoarse and sound like they're struggling....well he sounded like it was all he could do to make it through that speech and the wife in back of him was looking sort of concerned.

4. Many Presidents have had very serious health problems that were covered up. |
|
John Kennedy, FDR, and Woodrow Wilson were all very sick men during their terms and the public knew very little of it.
Grover Cleveland had cancer surgery during his adminstration - mouth cancer - and the public knew nothing of it - it was not disclosed until long after his death.
Eisenhower had a very serious heart attack that was minimized before the public.
Richard Nixon and George W. Bush were both certifiably insane. The latter suffered a great deal from hallucinations.

11. Well does anybody think Reagan got sick AFTER he left office? |
|
He always seemed out of it to me, especially 2nd term....where he developed that "I didn't hear you" thing....when he forgot what the question was???

16. St. Ronald had terrible trouble with his memory. |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 08:16 AM by mwb970
During the Iran-Contra hearings, he kept saying "Well, I don't remember" and "Well, I can't recall". He couldn't remember anything about his involvement in the scandal. This seems to have been the beginning of the Republican penchant, now full-blown, to be consistently unable to remember important details about their own recent activities.
In bush's case, we could check those details by looking at the e-mails that - oops, they're missing!

It would be rude to point out that he's about at Year #5 on the Reagan scale. Oops I didn't say that. Bad me.

8. I agree he looks sickly- and laughs way too much to |
|
hide his anger.
He should be screened by his own party and disclose his health problems.

12. He used to be able to at least tell a (lame) joke |
|
The clip I saw he was trying to tell this joke about Romney flip-flopping or whatever, and it was pretty painful.....long pause and he just seemed to be suffering going through it.
Maybe it's just a question of campaigning being a young person's thing, he's like Fred T.....I'm pretty tired....guess I'll go home now!

15. I agree. Looks like somethings wrong with him. |
|
some people don't age well which may be part of it. But I think there's something else wrong with him.
He kind of scares me sometimes the way he looks- like he's trying really hard to keep things under control.

Clinton v Dole.
Dole was the respected, war veteran guy who wasn't seen as a far right nutcase - but he just came across as old and too much a part of the past. People liked and respected him, but they just didn't want him to be President.
Our only disagreement is that I think it will be Clinton opposing him :D

|
Check the wind sock. The breeze is starting to blow against the Clintons after several weeks of amazingly sleazy, dishonest tactics and statements.
If even huge Clinton fans like me are getting sick of them, they're in big trouble.

24. We have a forum for smearing candidates |
|
it's not this one.
I just hate that every discussion anywhere on this board becomes a place to smear candidates.
We were discussing John McCain, not how much you think Clinton sucks. That kind of crap just immediately derails and destroys any real discussion that's going on.
