OK, someone explain this to me... |
|
How the hell does a hunting show like you see on VS, or any other outdoor cable channel qualify as a program that can be used to fulfill FCC Educational/Instructional programming regs?

1. It has to meet no standards, it is not a Broadcast Network |

Cable is not licensed by the FCC and does not fall under any sort of requirement for the public good.

2. No, the show in question is not on a cable network. |
|
It's on one of the Digital Channels run by our local ABC affiliate.
I mean that the show itself is like those hunting shows you see on cable.

3. I've never understood hunting shows. |
|
Obviously, I'm not a fan of hunting in any way. However, I know that folks enjoy going out and killing an animal to eat/feed their family. I get it. What I don't get, is who the fuck likes watching a show about people killing animals? I'm sure that there's information about new equipment and the proper way to mask yourself in piss, but the video of folks shooting something to death?

4. When I was younger, I'd watch these shows |
|
when I visited my mom and stepdad. He was a hunter, strictly for meat for the family. I found the shows boring. About the only "educational" value I could find was that the host would point out new places to hunt, the latest hunting regulations, and sometimes safety tips. I guess that would be enough to qualify it for "education". This show was on a PBS affiliate, btw.

5. Well, yes, there is an outdoor show on our PBS affiliates here in Wisconsin. |
|
They have hunting segments, however, if you watch an episode, you are also just as likely to see segments featuring fishing, hiking, boating, clays, canoing, snowshoeing, etc.

I've never seen a hunting show on PBS here in the northwest. so I can't comment.
The only thing more boring than hunting shows is fishing shows. Guys sitting around on a boat...sheesh!
