At dinner tonight, I pissed off my budniss partner by saying Bush is a successful president. |
|
She initially misunderstood what I meant and it took, seemingly, forever to get her to understand what I meant. But in the end, she understood.
First off ..... 'successful' does not equal 'good'.
Bush came into office with the most nefarious agenda of any president in history. And every nefarious goal he laid out has a tick mark next to it in the 'completed' column. He set out, among other things, to go to war with Saddam, to loot the treasury, to destroy the middle class to ensure a steady supply of demoralized wage slaves, to enrich the already obscenely rich, and in the process, to show up his father.
He has accomplished all that and so much more.
None of this is incompatible with the irrefutable fact that he will be judged the worst president in history. But also one of the most horrendously successful.

2. Only thing he hasn't been able to do is close down social security |
|
but yeah, the rest of it "Mission Accomplished". Government has been successfully drowned in the bathtub and Bush has set up a Holy Crusade which will go on for decades to come.

7. It's done for and all but dead. But it won't offically be declared dead until the next President. |
|
Bush doesn't want the body found on his watch.

...analyzing the ease with which America veered toward fascism during the Bush presidency. If nothing else it's an object lesson in how fragile even the most cherished freedoms can be. All it takes is a little fear, and an utterly unscrupulous ruling class-- and that includes the "loyal opposition"-- to dash centuries of proud independence to bits and grind them under the heels of the military industrial complex. It's going to take a long time for Americans to come to grips with what we've allowed ourselves to become in so short a time.

6. It took me a couple of years to get over the "Bush is an incompetent idiot" meme & realize... |
|
...exactly what you said.
Bush has succeeded in what he/they set out to do. Mission Accomplished. Americans are screwn.

9. You are sadly correct--he's had only one notable failure (demolishing Social Security). |
|
Otherwise, he's been a (literal) smashing success. :scared:
