Want to help the cyclone victims in Myanmar (Burma)? |
|
I know many DUers have generous hearts, but sending "aid" to these victims is a dicey proposition due to the government's interference.
Well, yesterday I learned of a giving opportunity that oversteps that difficulty. It involves sending a check by snail-mail:
The Myanmar Association of Hawaii has worked out how to get the relief supplies into the country in the face of all the difficulties and delays experienced by the international organizations and donor governments. To get around the difficulty of getting relief supplies and workers, especially Americans, into Myanmar and to make sure that the relief supplies will be delivered to the intended victims of the deadly hurricane of last week, the Myanmar Association of Hawaii has achieved reliable nongovernmental linkages for hurricane relief distribution in Myanmar using nongovernmental organizations, personal networks, and people or agencies already in-country or already holding entry visas, including Buddhist monks and nuns. With these linkages in place, the Association believes that it can effectively and efficiently deliver relief to those in need.
We are asking for your donations for relief supplies to help the Myanmar victims who are so desperately in need of aid. The Association will not spend donated funds on personal travel expenses and will buy or get donated supplies in-country or from companies with import licenses into Myanmar.
Please make checks payable and mail to:
Myanmar Association of Hawaii "For Myanmar Cyclone Victims" 720 North King Street Honolulu, HI 96817.
*The organization is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 and therefore tax deductible. They will send receipts.
No, I am not associated with this aid organization, I learned of it because I am an alumnae of the East-West Center in Hawaii.
Thanks for your consideration.
