CSPIN NOW. RIchard Viguerie, asshole extraordinaire on now. |
|
he is pushing the third party - Libertarian, so to that extent, we can't piss on him too hard.

1. His direct-mail campaigns from decades ago were effective grassroots organizing |

and a result of a lot of hard work. Too bad his party put it to use for "no good".

Vigurie's discourse is pretty poor in the q and a session. I did not get his point about old Bush.

3. I know Richard pretty well, as it happens |
|
I know, I know, how could I etc etc etc? Just one of those chances Fate tosses in your path. Richard is totally 180° from me on just about every issue we could ever discuss, but he really does believe all this stuff, and he is VERY quick on his feet. I can't get anywhere talking politics with him, and his religion is what it is.
But one thing he has come to believe of late is that the Republican party no longer represents conservatism, and he even wrote a book about the Bushies called "Conservatives Betrayed." If he wants to support a movement that will siphon off votes from the Republicans this fall, let him. He's no fool. He knows perfectly well what he is doing, and that he could well contribute to the election of Obama as much as Nader did to Bush. He just figures that it might be worth it to give the government to the Demcorats for four years in order to let the right get its house in order--his order, I might add. He knows (or hopes) that a Democratic administration will be more honest with its fiscal policy, and that it won't have the time to enact too many progressive social programs due to current budgetary constraints. The Republicans could then "regain the path," so to speak, and then get back in to power having discovered their old-time religion.
Much as it might be very un-PC, I will also tell you that he happens to be a hell of a nice guy, as well as sharp as a whip, which drives me nuts every time I listen to him. But that's the way it is. I know I'd probably prefer his company to that of some of the nut-cases I see in GDP. Richard has been around, and "knows when to leave his guns at the door." In politics, that is an acquired skill, let me tell you.

6. he has been all that you say this morning. |

Not rude, not obnoxious, not uninformed.
I do disagree with him on one point. Government is NOT the enemy. It is the voice of the people, essentially, and eventually. The reason why we have elections is that we have to remind the government of it repeatedly.

8. Except for some CNN, I get no American TV here |
|
So I never get to see this stuff live.
I usually disagree with Richard on EVERYTHING but the weather and "Bush sucks," but he is always civil, even when telling me I'm a "libbrul," and therefore got things ass-backwards.

"Conservatism is the exact opposite of conservatism" I have been reading about cognitive disfunction as a function of age. Poor Richard.
