Smells like a setup to me. The white power structure was going to put him in his place one way or another. Lots of hateful comments at the link too.

1. Dillards has fought lawsuit after lawsuit for racial profiling
and some of the instances were quite egregious. This one? Seems like he might have a hard time fighting it as the way I read it they found him with the merchandise.

2. Bump. Does anybody care that this kid is about to get railroaded again?
or has the world jumped on the next bandwagon already.

11. Oh for crying out loud.
His lawyer claims it was accidental while he was cleaning the gun.
The would is in the shoulder and apparently not life threatening.
By the way how is that he had the gun in the first place?

6. Looks pretty solid on this one based on the write up
hard to claim harassment and profiling if you are caught with the stuff.

Hitting the security guard was not either, though I will admit to have dropped one recently.

10. Please. The kid fucked up. Repeatedly.
He is not some misunderstood innocent. There is a pattern of violent behavior, following by larceny, followed by more violent behavior. Let him serve his time and hopefully straighten himself up. No need to make him out the "victim" or the "white power structure." Do you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds?

12. Yup
The white power structure sent an agent in to follow this kid and planted the merchandise into his bag. THEN...they alerted the store security and whispered into to his ear that he should run like the wind. :eyes:

Sheesh....some people are criminals. That does NOT mean that there is not institutional racism or racism in the retail security model - but this means that this young man is a thief - assuming conviction, but the evidence seems straight forward. This also does NOT make the Jena 6 incident not a hate crime. This is an individual man making poor choices.

13. We don't know that's what happened
that's just what the police say. They also said he attempted murder and we know how that turned out.

17. Good Point
However, in this situation - it seems pretty clear cut.

Kids (at my age, anyone below 30 is a kid) shoplift all the time...it happens.

18. The murder charge was crap but I don't think anyone's denying he was involved with the assault
The guy appears to have criminal tendencies and just because he was excessively charged in one case doesn't mean he's innocent of everything he's ever been charged with.

14. Oh what the fuck ever. What proof have you got on that? What do
you base this claim on?

No wonder my family thinks dems are a bunch of let-it-all-hang-out flakes.

15. Just point out to your family that
no matter how little evidence may exist to exonerate this young man, believing that racism is behind it is far more reasonable than thinking Jesus is sitting in heaven worrying about whether people are having gay sex. Since, you know, the former is actually possible.

Moreover, it is easy to see a correlation between poverty and crime. Poverty does not cause petty crime, but it makes it more attractive. And, going back in time, a causal relationship seems pretty evident in American society between race and poverty. White Americans made black Americans poor. Even though this goes on less today than in years past, it still happens, and the effects of our overtly racist past are still quite fresh.

You should remind your family why Democratic politics are obviously saner than Republican ones, it isn't difficult.

Which is not to say that both parties, and our society as a whole, are not totally fucked.

Edited on Tue Dec-30-08 02:22 PM by acmavm
on a good day. And it's amazing that an idiot could manage to work in Jesus and gays into this thread. That says a lot about you and your thought processes.

I guess that just proves their point. Maybe dems are fucking idiots.

19. lol
Try thinking about my post for a second, acmavm, if you actually read it all the first time.

You said your family thinks Dems are a bunch of "let it all hand out flakes." Generally, in this country, that means they are republicans. As silly as defending the kid in the OP may seem, it is far more rational than the typical repub lines of thinking, as my post proved.

If your family is not republican, then they don't just think Dems are flakes, they think American politics as a whole suck, which I sympathize with. If they are repubs, as your post strongly implied, then they are criticizing Dems for being "flakes" while aligning themselves with a bunch of hateful religious fundamentalists. That's about as flaky as it gets, IMO.

That is why Jesus and gays are relevant to your post, they are issues which prove that your typical republican is far dimmer and "flakier" than the people you have lambasted in this thread. So, your family would be better served to criticize Republicans than Dems, especially since racism and poverty can never be wholly untangled in American society. But you already knew that, because I already pointed it out to you.

Now that I have explained TWICE, using the same sound logic, why your comment was erroneous, it should be pretty clear to the world who the "dumbass" in this thread is.

Thanks, come again! :)
