Insurance is *inherently* a social safety net. |
|
A bunch of people pay into it, in case they need it. Some of those people file a claim when they need it.
I know that a lot of conservatives don't like the idea of paying taxes to fund somebody else's insurance, but that's what we're already doing anyway (those of us lucky enough to have insurance).
We can either continue paying into a social safety net run by private corporations that robs us all blind, or we can pay into a social safety net run by the govt, where at least they are accountable to the citizens, not to a fat cat board of directors and CEOs.
Just saying.

it seems the other countries are faring better right now in this economic climate BECAUSE of their safety net. it's not hitting them as bad because people have those buffers there.

4. That's exactly how it should be framed |

At least you have a Constitutional Right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. With a corporation, you've got nothing. That's why they want to privatize everything, leave us without any rights at all.

Only problem is, now that I'm retired and on Medicare all the premiums I paid while young and healthy went into the pockets of the insurance companies because the companies always found ways to shaft those who really needed help. SINGLT PAYER IS THE ONLY ANSWER.
