Tony Soprano for president? |
|
And why not? Tony is an alpha male who takes control. Could you picture him taking any crap from Republicans? And blue dog Democrats would worry about ending up among the missing.
Sure, rivals like big oil, insurance companies, big pharma, banks, and Wall Street would try to whack him. But as we’ve seen over the years, Tony has a knack for surviving.
The question then becomes, what’s in it for all the rest of us? Well, Tony always wants to be paid tribute, but he also makes sure that those who are with him get to earn a decent living. He needs them. So I guess if we voted him into office, he’d need us too.
And yeah, I know he’s a fictional character, but so what? A fictional character as president just might be a big improvement over what we’ve been living with for the last 30 years.
Okay, so this posting is a bit tongue in cheek. But to tell the truth, I doubt if Tony could be any worse than the thugs who currently govern us, or those who own them.

1. We already have Soprano and his gangster buddies in |
|
the new session of the House and they are Republicans, not Democrats. Honestly, Darryl Issa? He makes Soprano look like a choir boy.

2. Mark Twain on politicians |
|
"When politics enter . . . government, nothing resulting there from in the way of crimes and infamies is then incredible. It actually enables one to accept and believe the impossible."
"The government of my country snubs honest simplicity, but fondles artistic villainy, and I think I might have developed into a very capable pickpocket if I had remained in the public service a year or two."
"Right here in this heart and home and fountain-head of law, this great factory where are forged those rules that create good order and compel virtue and honesty in the other communities of the land, rascality achieves its highest perfection." "History has tried to teach us that we can't have good government under politicians. Now, to go and stick one at the very head of government couldn’t be wise."
