Oct. 9 - Uganda opens a factory which will produce low cost drugs for treatment of HIV/AIDS and malaria - two of Africa's most deadly diseases.
The factory is the first of its kind in Uganda, and officials said the factory would start making and distributing generic AIDS antiretroviral drugs immediately, along with malaria drugs.
The factory is expected to turn a modest profit and officials hope eventually to sell the drugs to neighbouring countries.
Some other African countries have started producing their own antiretrovirals in the last 4 years.
