The Dakar Starts Saturday, the First. |
|
And is available on Versus in Los Angeles. There are a million posts in the usual places, many by the riders themselves, such as Jenny Morgan and Jonah Street. There is better coverage online, and at the official website, and the racers websites. Cars, trucks, ATV's and motorcycles. About 7000 miles thru' all imaginable terrain. The most strenuous endurance ride on this planet. Open to both amateur and professional. dc

1. Is it in South America again? |
|
Or is North Africa deemed safe enough?

3. I would imagine it will never go back to Africa. I think they have got |
|
a good set up, with fewer problems all around down there. And they get far better financial participation. So they will stay with it. dc

4. Probably right. Some year they'll have to rename the race |
|
"The Pan-Patagonian" would be nice.
Or maybe take some town in the boonies of South America and rename it "Dakar".
My butt hurts just thinking about that race.

5. After 30 odd years they have an extremely important asset, |
|
of an intangible nature, and value: name recognition. Over much of the world, and that is something they have to hang on to, so maybe not. Don't forget, the Heroes/Legends race has taken over the old Africa route, to some extent. dc
