I can understand the reasoning behind getting rid of most of its provisions, but what is the justification for allowing union entities to donate to candidates (as opposed to getting union members to donate), if corporate entities can't (that was prohibited earlier, IIRC)?

1. Yes. The only purpose to Taft-Hartley was to undermine the power

of labor and to codify owners "right" to divide and conquer. If you read http://vi.uh.edu/pages/buzzmat/tafthartley.html">the act, you will find that it is entirely one-sided and literally outlaws workers right to benefit from the fruits of its labor.

It is also worth noting that every attempt to ameliorate its effects have been defeated by corporate 5th columnists within the Democratic Party, and has not enjoyed the support of either of our small 'd' Democratic Presidents in the last 30 years.

ETA: I don't know where you got the idea that corporations cannot donate to political campaigns, but it is wrong. They are limited, like any other person, to direct donations of $2000, but they are free to donate unlimited funds to parties and PACs. This is exactly how candidates raise millions.

3. Corporations also do "bundling"

They extort $2000 "donations" from as many people as they can, usually people who are half hearted about the whole thing but want to keep their managerial salaries and who are assured they'll get it back at bonus time. Large corporations can then present millions in a donation bundle, a very impressive dollar amount for an outfit like Exxon or GE that wants some very specific legislation in return.

That's how they make their millions.

Best described by Harry Truman as a "slave-labor bill", adding that it would "conflict with important principles of our democratic society".

If we revoke the whole thing certain provisions can be debated like the one about unions contributing to campaigns that you brought up and my personal peeve that closed shops used to discriminate racially and by gender although I am for closed shops otherwise.
