| 1. Kucinich is a good man. |
|
He's great on the issues, too.
Personally, I'd love to see Bobby Kennedy, Jr. run, but I fear that is never to be. Mario Cuomo is someone who would have been a great POTUS. I'm waiting to see who else gets in or drops out before I make a final choice.

and had a terrible voting record until he declared his candidacy in 2004. I don't trust him and I won't cross that line.
Edwards talks a good fight on poverty issues, and seems to be the only one talking about the 80% of us who didn't do all that well during the Clinton boom and the 90% of us who have been completely left out of Stupid's great economy.
Richardson is growing on me. He's good on a lot of environmental issues and managed not only to get a commuter rail in this state approved, but to get a good part of it up and running. Ridership is increasing with the gas prices. He's also signed a medical marijuana bill that covers it from cultivation through prescription and distribution. Nobody can match him for foreign policy experience. He had a bad first term, but he seems to have smartened up a lot since he's been out of DC and away from the DLC inner circle. He's still DLC, but he shows every sign of shaking them up. A lot.
Obama is the orator of the bunch. He has a good voting record and a great deal of personal appeal. My own feeling is that this is a trial run for him, but he'll be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Clinton is the most business friendly and has the most money, although not by an insurmountable sum. She has name recognition, something that works both for and against her. She hasn't talked much about her health plan, though, and I have to wonder whether or not she's going to discard trying to Bandaid the mess we have now by leaving insurance companies in the mix. If she is the candidate, I'll vote for her, but I won't be happy about it.
Gravel is saying a lot of things about foreign policy that a lot of people want to hear, but his tax proposal is both cruel and inadequate. All flat sales tax proposals are.
Biden talks a good labor fight and has a great deal of organized labor support.
Dodd, poor Dodd. He was hanging in there until he told us all we all needed to sacrifice. Sorry, bud, but we've been doing that since the 70s. It's THEIR turn now.

He's great on men's issues. He just sucks on the one most basic right for half the population of this country: the right to control their own bodies.

trust it either.
Why did he change his position? Because it's important to him, or because he wanted a fighting chance with women voters?

but he did very poorly in the debates and wouldnt stand up for impeachment, which is why I changed my vote to Kucinich, its not too late for Richardson to change my mind back though. I also like Wes and Gore, of course.

pro-death penalty stance.
I can NOT vote for ANYONE who's pro-death...
As for Kucinich, if he weren't pro-choice, I wouldn't support him... That's another deal-killer with me.
I support Dennis Kucinich...

| 36. That's really unfair to hold Kucinich's PAST anti-choice position against him |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 05:35 AM by Ken Burch
Too many progressives used that in 2004 as a bogus excuse to back Dean instead of Kucinich, even though Dean never actually deserved left-Democratic support, especially not working-class left-Democratic support.
(This should not be taken as an attack on Dean as DNC chair, but simply a comment on his failed presidential campaign, btw.)
And even if Kucinich had somehow actually been nominated and elected on an antichoice platform, the prochoice majority of the party would have forced him to be effectively prochoice when in office.
It's thinking like that that led a lot of Democrats to stay loyal to Bill Clinton and not do the sensible thing and organize a left-Democratic primary challenge to him in 1996, even though the man had abandoned all other recognizable Democratic positions by then. "He's prochoice and that's all that matters" too many of them said.

| 12. My first choice is obvious (and I'd like to know what, if anything, he can do |
|
to convince you that he changed his heart on choice). A lack of choice, combined with the likely SCOTUS nominations, will force me to vote for the Dem nominee, but I really don't like any of the others.
Gravel makes some good points, but his tax proposal would decimate what's left of the middle class and the poor would just have to die if he got his way.
All the rest are just corporate shills that will do whatever their masters tell them to.

| 13. Gravel's tax thing is basically anti-urban |
|
The idea is that you'd get a "prebate" to compensate for the sales tax you'd have to pay on everything, including rent and utilities. Unfortunately, the poverty level used to compute it is based on food only multiplied by three, which means that high rent urban areas (where the jobs are) get totally screwed, since rent and utilities are the basic budget busters there.

If you Kucinich types can dream the impossible dream, so can I.
Not that it would bother me all that much to see Dennis actually get it. I pretty much like Dennis on the issues, but there's something a little...strange...about the guy that I just can't put my finger on. I wish I could identify it.

I'm liking Hillary less and less. Now it seems that she is the top campaign fund raiser of the Democratic candidates by tapping into another source that the rest of the candidates haven't, disgruntled Republicans who are pissed with Bush. Do tell. All I can see is another eight years of conservative corporatism with Hillary even though I know she wouldn't be the lunatic Bush is.

Upthread I hadn't yet decided, but he's my caniddate.
I will say this: If another candidate who has the ability to stop the Clinton forced march to the White House does get into the race, and he stays away from the DLC, I would support his challenge at the drop of a hat.
