The McCain campaign's baseless use of the terms "socialist" and "socialism" to describe Obama and his policies has brought those terms onto the agenda, and as a result US residents are trying to uncover what those terms mean. In the context of a particular crisis of capitalism this has brought a deeper interest in socialist politics and theory, especially by young people who aren't as entrenched in the culture of anti-communism of the Cold War years.
