| Poll question: Pro-Choice Poll |
|
I'm not asking anyone to talk about their personal choices, specifically. (I don't want to see anyone harassed). But if you are comfortable participating in the poll, please do so.
I'm very curious to see the numbers on this, based on our group. Thanks in advance! :)

| 1. Other - none of the above. However, I totally support a woman's right to choose... |

if and when she will have children. To me, it's a human right.

| 2. Other. If I became pregnant, I would have an abortion. |

Mr. smokey and I take every precaution we can, but if science fails it's a choice we would make.

in voting: "Four of the above".
I'd never considered the life saving surgery for an ectopic to be an abortion. Apparently, to some, it is.
I was very close to someone who attempted an illegal, self induced abortion and know several women who lived through other illegal arrangements.
I haven't accompanied anyone to have a legal abortion but I did arrange one for someone when I was a minor.
I haven't worked for a women's clinic but I do volunteer whenever possible.

I've accompanied an ex-girlfiend to get an abortion. I volunteered for years as a pro-choice escort outside of a doctor's office (In Buffalo back when it seemed like we were under seige).

I've had one pregnancy, and I have one daughter from that. I was pro-choice before it, and remain pro-choice.
I volunteer occasionally, not often enough, as a clinic escort.

| 7. Two Women In My Family Had Illegal Abortions |
|
They survived them, and are/were pro-choice (one of them was my grandmother, who wasn't shy about having had two abortions).
I've had an abortion, and if either of my sterilizations fail, I'd have another so fast it'd make heads spin.
I've escorted.
I believe I'm still on 'the Nuremburg files,' so I'm used to being harassed.

I recently learned, from another place that must remain nameless, that the administrators of this site have easy access to the identities (i.e. usernames) of people who vote in polls here. This might be something that people considering responding to this poll would want to consider, if they are concerned about privacy and assuming that their answers are anonymous.
I can't see it likely being relevant here, but information like this has been used by administrators to ban someone whose response to a poll was considered contrary to the conditions of membership, and I have myself experienced having an administrator publicly post information from my account (i.e. that is not available to forum members) for the express purpose of undermining my credibility in a discussion of site policies.
edited, just to note: I haven't responded, precisely because poll responses are not anonymous, and these are questions on which I have tried to be careful never to publish personal information. That's a matter of pure personal preference, I hasten to add, and not intended as comment on anyone else's choices in this regard.

...it IS important for people posting here to be aware of such things. I wasn't. If I was, I probably wouldn't have started the poll at all, but at least we know now for the future. Thank you again, for sharing.
