Could an Obama-Kaine ticket be our best hope? |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 09:35 AM by nxylas
I've been seeing Tim Kaine's name floated on DU as a possible VP candidate lately. I didn't really know that much about him, so I checked out his Wikipedia page and it devotes a whole paragraph to his advocacy of smart growth policies. Together with Obama putting a commitment to public transportation on his campaign platform, as I mentioned on a previous thread, it seems to me that an Obama-Kaine ticket could be our best hope in decades of weaning America off its addiction to the private car. Edited to add: I get that the White House has only limited power in this area, and that such policies would have to be implemented at the local level, but having an administration that "gets it" would help set the tone for counties and cities to follow their lead.

But I did read on GD:P that Biden rides the train to work every day, which bodes well for our aims. Anyone know if Obama or Biden has ever made a statement on smart growth/new urbanism?
