| OK I've had it! With War and military culture! |
|
To give you a background on myself, I served in the USMC from 1998-2007 and went on a 6 month deployment in Iraq for 6 months. At first in 2003, I felt that Iraq was a mission that needed to be accomplished and would form an opinion once I got there myself. Once there, I had to deal with rocket attacks, lousy body armour, lousy KBR water and having to breath whatever trash KBR was burning once a week--my doubts about this war started to grow. I kept getting rebuttals from officers about the water and trash burning, telling me that there was nothing wrong. After my contract was up, I kept having the notion in the back of my head that maybe I should re-enlist once another president is in office. Over the past year or two, I look at both sides of the protests for and against the war, read about how depleted Uranium is still a problem and causing symptoms similar to gulf-war syndrome, recruitment of felons over GLBTs, star-wars, VA screwing over vets, assholes from gathering of eagles and other things. I've come to one conclusion: DON'T JOIN! DON'T RE-UP! GET RID OF THE NOTION OF THAT A LARGE MILITARY COMPLEX AND A BUNCH OF PERMANENT FOREIGN BASES WILL SOLVE EVERYTHING! END THE NATO ALLIANCE!
Basically I'll never re-enlist and wish to live a more peaceful co-existence.
