| Any ideas on the best way to sell Mikimoto pearls? |
|
My mom bought these about 25 years ago. She has the single strand necklace, double stand bracelet, and earings, plus a garnet enhancer that she paid $600 for. She has said she would like to sell these, but I don`t know where to start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

| 1. Do you have an ebay account now? |
|
It appears the Mikimoto do move on EBay, as there are a few auctions there now with active bidding.
You might want to find an agent to do the selling for you if you dont know how to set it up. They generally charge a reasonable fee.

By an agent do you mean one of these companies that will sell your stuff on e-bay? there is a little storefront shop in my little town that advertises they will sell your stuff for you.

Or you can list it yourself by joining eBay. Members of the DU forum on antiques and collectibles would be happy to walk you through the process. It's pretty simple. The only drawback to getting top dollar would be that you have no history on eBay yet so buyers might wonder about your reliability. You could buy or sell several small things first to build up a little positive history. Or maybe someone you know uses eBay and would sell it for you without taking that whopping percentage fee.
I'll tell you what happened to my mother-in-law's high-end Mikimoto pearls. They disappeared from her room in the senior complex where she lived. What a shame. She had bought them in Japan at Mikimoto.

I`m going to the store on monday to get e-bay for dummies. Between my mom and I we have many smaller items that we would like to sell. Your advice seems to be very sound to me. It`s better to start out with something small to get established. I`m going to give it a try!
