An old roll of wrapping paper |
|
It's amazing how such an innocuous item as a roll of wrapping paper would lead me down the road it has.
So, I picked it up because 1) it was clearly old and 2) it was in very good shape and 3) it had a nice design on it - it's just black drawings of buildings on a white background. I wanted to open it up and look at the design better, but figured I need to do some research first, just in case, right?
So, here's what the label says:
amthor imports wrapping paper 6 sheets 20" x 30" Package Patent No. 838657 made in Japan
and then a price sticker that says:
120008 Japan 79cents
So I try to Google as much as I can, and from what I can gather, this company, Amthor Imports, seems to be the predecesor to Cost Plus (the founder's name was William Amthor, and Cost Plus was founded in 1958).
So then I'm thinking that maybe I shouldn't open it.
And I'm looking at the roll and it's wrapping, because now I'm wondering about the "package patent" thing, and I see a long red embedded strip that runs down the length of the cellophane wrap of the roll, exactly like the kind you would find on an old package of gum - you know, you pull it and it opens the package.
So what would you do? Would you open it up because you want to see the rest of the design on the paper?
(I'll post a photo later when I get a chance)

1. Sell it as "Perfect Ephemra"! |
|
I would be so tempted to just open it... :yoiks:
'Course, I would probably then use it in a decoupage project.
What are you going to do with it??

3. What will I do with it? |
|
Probably the same thing that I do with all these things.
Put it in my "eventual ebay room" and close the door, lol.

4. It looks like neat paper. I'd be tempted to open it for sure. |

On a related note, were you the poster who put up the Eames tray? I was browsing ebay to see what other Eames stuff (besides furniture) was valuable and I stumbled upon fabric. There was a yard of something that was actually signed Eames on the side that went for hundreds of dollars. Just checked and it's gone from the sold list already, but you can bet I'm keeping my eyes peeled for that.

5. Yes that was me. I've seen the fabrics too |

I think I read somewhere that those patterns were recently reissued, so they are available, albeit expensive. This place seems to have them: http://www.jandofabrics.com/products.asp?id=70
