| A chair that converts to a table? |
|
I keep forgetting to ask about this, but I saw these 2 chairs, looked like basic dining chairs with upholstered padded seat and solid wood back. Except, the seat flips foward and the back folds foward and down to produce a little side table. It was just really bizarre and I thought it would be something apropos to a hotel room. Have you seen anything like this ever? I couldn't find any tags or ID markings.
Fortunately, they were priced way too high to even be tempting.

| 2. The wood was probably something like walnut, possibly cherry |

and I can't even say for sure whether it was veneer or not, I was too busy examining how it functioned. It wasn't particularly modern, neither very ornamental. Very neutral, like hotel furnishings, which probably is why I though hotel - plus the utilitarian nature of it. I've searched online and haven't found one yet, it might just be one of those novelty items that never really catches on.
The back was composed of two pieces of wood hinged together so that when it folded forward, one piece served as the brace that locked into slits on the other piece. When upright, you could barely tell there were two pieces, because the edges were hidden behind the chair framework.
The seat was rather tall, so think of the typical upholstered dining side chair seat and make that about 8-10 inches high. Probably for balance purposes so that when it's flipped forward, the chair doesn't tip backwards from the extra weight of the chair back/table. I could probably draw the basics of the design, but I don't have an easy way to digitize it. Wish I had one of those tablet input devices.
Doh! I guess I could draw it on old fashioned paper, and then take a photo of the drawing... doh...
