Auction Kings -- TLC Tuesday nights |
|
This must be a trend! Yet another show, and I really like this one. It's an auction house in Atlanta. Nice people, lots of fun stuff. A 1960 pink Cadillac, a collection of Negro League baseball memorabilia, a huge battery operated tugboat, a model A Ford pickup that I really want, some original Disney drawings for the Lion King project.
I'm really enjoying learning from all these new shows!
Pawn Stars American Picker -- new episodes start Dec. 4. Hollywood Treasure Auctioneers$ Auction Kings
I still say someone needs to start a network.

These folks are like the keystone cops of the business. Someone brought in a Barbie doll original black striped bathing suit 1958 or 1959 with the green ear problem. They offered and the seller accepted 3000 dollars, then they did not have the cash and had to go out and scrap gold to pay her. Next episode they lost a 10,000 pave diamond ring that a customer had returned to the shop to retrieve. Eventually they found the ring, I think. The shop is in Naperville outside of Chicago. I dont have the strength to participate in the business anymore but I still like to keep up.

2. Get out! Another one?? |
|
I went to the website. A pawn shop catering to women? I'll check it out. I saw a couple of articles about it on google.
Pretty soon I am going to have my wish, sort of. I want a network for antiques and collectible. I guess a dozen shows on various networks is about as good as that.

3. Yes and they did not even mention how hard it was going |
|
to be to work over the green ears. There are ways to deal with that but they are to the best of my knowledge very difficult and by no means guaranteed. So paying 3000 may have been a bit steep what do you think? The face had not gone completely stark white as is the case with some of the oldies and the lipstick and make up and hair seemed fine but still....

5. I didn't see the episode, but I imagine the green ears are from the earrings. |
|
I rarely sell Barbies, but that seems to be the most pressing question among collectors of old ones. The metal turns the vinyl a funny color around the ear hole.

6. Right. The metal earrings turn the ears green and it can go |
|
almost down the neck. Tough to fix too I was told.

7. I've been watching the Auction Kings show and have to admit, |
|
I would never consign anything there. They should be setting reserves on some of the things they sell. The last episode a lady took a real beating on a Louis Vuitton trunk and a couple of weeks ago a woman with African artifacts probably lost $20,000 on a pair of chairs. This auction house seems to be more concerned about getting deals for the buyers than good prices for the sellers.

8. yeah that trunk was a real shocker |
|
I could not understand why there was not a reserve.
At least the lady with the African art was not unhappy. But the trunk woman did expect more.
