Another Storage Locker auction show... |
|
I can't even think of the name of it, but there's something about it that really bugs me. One of the main couples who appear each week and bid on units do this thing called "research" where they somehow find out who the renter was and what their business/hobbies were, so they can make educated guesses about what the contents might be.
I'm wondering: how the hell do they get that info! I've rented storage places in the past and I'd be beyond pissed if my info was given out to anyone, even if I had abandoned a locker.
Just seems like there's some violation of some ethics or rules or something by doing this.
Thoughts?

1. I saw that show and didn't like it, but as for the info . . . |
|
it's easy to try to get a feel for what stuff might be up for sale just by googling the name of the person who rents the locker and the town the locker is in. I thought I might go to a storage auction - later decided against it because I haven't got a place to sell stuff other than antiques and collectibles - and took the listing and googled everyone's name. I came up with a musician (recording equipment, musical instruments?) and a local artist and a person who seemed to be the sole heir of someone who might have had money (antiques?). I don't see anything unethical about using the tools available to make a wise choice on what to bid.

2. I didn't realize they published the owner's name |
|
If it's published, that's one thing. I sort of was thinking they slipped a 20 to the office staff or something.

3. Where I live they give the names - it might not be that way everywhere. |
|
I think I'm going to keep on checking them because you never know what you might find and I would go through the hassle of dealing with the stuff if I thought there was something really great to be had. There are some people in our area who do this for a living and have regular Saturday tag sales. I don't think they weed things out because I've found a few good things there, but most of it seems to be just average household items.
