I have no fault at all with the eBay reseller I chose but a few of the things that are now appearing have brought---zilch. My heart is broken at one selling price for a beautiful silver plated handled basket. It was at least a $150.00 piece. Went for $8.00. Far less than I paid for it.
I commend the reseller for his hard work. The pictures and descriptions are great. Just the luck of the draw, I guess.

I wonder why he put such a very low opening price? Is that his usual policy? And have you been pleased with results of any of the other pieces?

2. That's the risk of selling without a reserve.

About a year ago I took a bunch of stuff to an auction gallery that has gotten good prices in the past for people. I decided to take my chances. What a mistake that was. Fortunately I managed to rescue a few things before they were given away. Never again. I put most things on ebay at a set price now and let people make offers. Some things I'd rather keep if the price isn't right. I still think you should consider a booth somewhere. I was talking to a former auctioneer I know and he said he's taken a booth at a shop called Arundel Antiques just north of Kennebunkport in Maine. Apparently there are 2 big antique shops and a flea market grouped together and, according to him, buyers are usually lined up to get in during the summer season. His booth cost about $65 and in the first couple of weeks he said he sold $1,100. worth of stuff. I'm definitely going to drive over there (it's a 3 hour trip) next spring and check it out.

3. if it's any consolation...

...I just reviewed the silver handled baskets closed on eBay in the last 30 days and see that most of them did not sell, and those that had a reserve went begging.

4. I guess I had better

knock on wood. I have been selling parts of a large glass collection for a disabled friend (to help with medical expenses).....I have had good results so far and out of the last 48 pieces listed, only 2 did not sell. Currently finishing up listing the last pieces of carnival and art glass this week and will start on the vaseline glass next.

5. that's good to know

I've been thinking about selling off some things that I have been keeping for myself. Some Staffordshire plates, some McCoy and Weller, some obscure cookbooks from the 1800s, some mid-century modern copper enamel art pieces, etc. Maybe a couple thousand postcards, too. The 12,000 pieces of sheet music are in storage and doing me no good although the market has fallen pretty much.

Then I could buy some vaseline glass! :-)
