What do you do in the "slow" season? |
|
In my town, garage/estate/yard sales have trickled down to half a dozen in any quadrant of the city. And the rain makes going on an expedition not nearly as enjoyable.
And yet the itch is still there.
This is the time of year when I could do one of several things. Sort and price for my retail mall space. Try to find bargains on eBay. (Ha!) Shop thrift stores.
I've been considering a fourth task for several years but I never get around to it. And that's making artisanal objects out of things I have, to sell in my retail space (if old things are used, it's okay with management). I started out an art major in college; maybe I could make something attractive enough to sell. I see a LOT of beautiful things made from felted vintage sweaters and other stuff.
What do you do in the slow season?

1. Actually, I spend the slow season reaquainting myself with the vacuum cleaner! |

I also enjoy sleeping in on Saturday mornings instead of heading out to tag sales. Last winter I tried making some papier mache cat sculptures with the thought of selling them, but I made them in the image of our cats and now I can't part with them. A woman in the shop where I sell buys odd lots of bark cloth and makes pillows to sell. They seem to do well. I suppose I could do baby quilts or quilted pillows. I'm a fabric hoarder and need to empty a closetful of material anyway.

auctions within driving distance. Check out www.auctionzip.com and you can search auctions with antiques and collectibles by distance from your residence. I have found some good sales this way.
