As a quick reminder regarding coins, don't forget that 1964 and |
before, all quarters, half dollars and dimes were make of silver. As the silver market hits higher levels, the value will go up. Soon you will be seeing signs saying "I'll buy your dimes and quarters at twice face value. Keep your eye in the "Daily London Fix" (Google it). This will give you the market price of gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Silver closed today at over $14.00 an ounce, gold at over $800.00. Don't forget these prices are for "pure", not .925 and not 14K, or other percentages. Precious metals is a hard market to play because of all the fees involved but a little scrounging in your daily change might slowly turn into a pile of pre-1964 coins that will be worth a little. Happy hunting.

2. one way to get a fast collection is this |
Go to a casino that has .50 slot machines that pay out in .50 cent coins. I've heard of people finding old Franklins and even some proof coins in the mix. You just never know! :)

3. Also, pennies used to be made of copper, which we know is quite valuable now, |
with so many people stealing copper wiring and such. Was that also pre-1964, or was it a different year when they switched?

4. They changed the penny's composition in 1983. |
All '82s and earlier contain copper, all '84s and later are zinc, and they made both styles in 83 during the transition.
