Biden's SS name
Sorry if this is old news - catching up on a couple days of email and it was in my Google Alert

USSS Code Names: Biden and Palin

11 Sep 2008 12:42 pm
Biden's is "Celtic." His USSS detail doesn't seem to be certain if it's "Celtic" as in the basketball team or "Celtic" with a hard K.

And the Palin family has chosen the letter D: Denali for her, Driller for him, according to Anne Kornblut.

Outing these code names doesn't harm anyone, no worries, although the campaigns, having had the Secret Service emphasize operational security procedures to them ad nauseum, have asked staff members not to talk about these things.

1. I'd heard hers -- Denali, but hadn't heard Joe's or Todd's.
I like Celtic (and would prefer to pronounce it with a hard K), but they waisted that C name when we already had one for him!

Wonder what Jill's is.

3. I would assume it would be with the hard K...
as that is the original pronunciation as related to the culture and language. I think it suits him well. I bet his mom approves!

I looked for an Irish or Gaelic name that starts with a C. I was trying to find something that related to a rescuer, or saintly, because I think that is part of his view of Jill.

I came up with the following:

Ciara: pronounced kee'-ar-a or keer'-a She was an Irish nun (saint)who established a monastery

and

Caoilfhionn: simply pronounced kee'-lin It comes from the Gaelic elements caol "slender" and fionn "fair", a lot of saints had this name

Both are really pretty names, I think. The spelling of Caoilfhionn is cumbersome, but the pronunciation is simple and easy to say and remember.
