...

Gitenstein, who worked for Biden for 13 years beginning in 1976, explained his loyalty with a story: Biden asked him to stay late one night for a Senate vote. Gitenstein hesitated to say yes because he was supposed to attend a parent-teacher conference.

" said: 'Mark, that's a lot more important than this bill, you go home,' " said Gitenstein, who also represented Biden when Obama was vetting him for vice president. "He said, 'If I ever hear again of you not doing something for your kids because of me, I'm going to be pretty upset.' It was just something that most bosses don't say."

...

""My estimation of Barack Obama went up when he actually picked Joe Biden because Joe Biden, he's a handful," Kaufman said. "I am absolutely convinced that Obama means everything he says, that he really picked Joe because he wants someone strong that he can talk to, someone that can advise him and the rest of it.""

1. "...because Joe Biden, he's a handful,"
A good cupcake always is!

I liked this:

Many of Biden's longtime advisers have similar explanations for their longevity: He's loyal, he's a good friend and he shares their values.

"He's always fun to be with, he's always interesting, there's a lot of laughter in our sessions," said John Marttila, a political adviser and friend since 1972. "But he's always been a tough customer. Everyone who has worked with him has felt his criticism."

Good article!

2. I bet working for Biden would have been non-stop excitement.
Never a dull moment with Joe around.

3. Joe seems like he was a good boss. I love that part about him
telling his staff member to go to the parent-teacher conference. What a great guy our cupcake is. Even if he is a "handful", LOL!
