Guess I'm not the only one thinking about this:

http://www.mlive.com/us-politics/index.ssf/2008/11/bidens_new_role_good_cop.html

I hope he has an integral role.
Biden has too much knowledge, energy and drive to be left idle.
Oh yeah - he also has alot of confidence in himself ;)

Joe did alot to help Obama get elected, but with all the talk about who should be Sec of State - my answer is still the same - Joe Biden.

Just hoping he keeps on smiling.

What are you guys thinking Joe's role is going to be?

1. loved that article. When I learned about Rahm Emanuel
(didn't remember who he was before) I thought of Joe as working rather differently so "good cop" fits. :)

I think there is so much to get done on every front that Obama and Biden will have PLENTY to keep them and a bunch of other people busy.

2. Joe already said he will be the Mondale model for VP: chief adviser
He will give his advice to Barack on everything and only agreed to be VP if this was what he could be. I think its perfect for him because he has been around in Washington for 35 years and knows all the ins and outs and how to get things done in congress. He will also be a liaison to Congress and a person who can "rally the troops" up on capital hill. One last thing is the fact that he is older than Obama by almost 20 years, I think he will be very protective of him. He will defiantly have Barack's back. I think he will be a great VP!

4. I agree with Jen.
I think they will have a true partnership. I think Obama will seek out and listen to Biden on almost every decision he makes. They may not always agree, and Obama may not always choose the path that Biden recommends, but together they will make some great strides toward putting this country back together again.
They make a great team...vision and wisdom.

5. Yes, I agree too
It appears that Obama is a good listener and really takes advice seriously. Biden is the perfect person to have nearby both as an adviser and a sounding board.

So glad to see the Frog is no longer angry!

6. Can the veep be SOS too?
I think Obama will come to trust Joe like no other in his cabinet. Joe has wisdom, intelligence & probably has the scoop on every one!

7. Joe might be SOS-like
but that could be a touchy area, especially after Cheney. To be effective, Joe may need to keep a low profile publicly. He may yet again play the role of the "unsung hero".

8. You have a point about Cheney's messing with the SOS (didn't he actually
lie to Powell?)

But I think it's a great loss not to have Biden's expertise and friendships/relationships with foreign leaders if he backs off in that area.

I want him to be "sung" -- he deserves it!

11. I believe he did lie to him
and also excluded Powell from important meetings as if he was just a token SOS. Powell took a lot of abuse from those jokers in the White House.

If Joe doesn't get the credit he deserves, we can still "sing" for him, loud and clear.

14. He has such a brilliant smile!
All my life, that's one of the first things I notice about men - their smiles. That's a great shot of him! Ya know, I think when Joe is smiling, you can't get a bad shot of him!

I can't recall seeing one awkward photo of either Obama or Biden during this entire campaign. It will be such a relief to have a prez & veep that don't look mean, goofy or awkward like so, so many of the photos of the puppet. I realize when you are in the public eye, there are going to be times the camera catches you with an unusual facial expression or in an awkward stance, but the puppet was extreme. In fact, it seemed to me that there are more awkward photos of him than normal ones.

I hope Laura divorces him. In spite of her flaws, I feel sorry for her. It comes across to me like she is an outsider in the family - like she was never fully embraced as a Bush equal. Years ago I remember a friend of mine got married to a young man whose family owned a lot of land. He was the child who was going to take over the family farm. I visited her once & the grandfather rode into the yard area in a pickup truck & leaned out the window & said, "Your ticket to the family is riding in behind me!" Sure enough, her husband came riding into the yard on a tractor. I thought, how odd that even after being married for a few years she was not enough a part of the family to still need 'her ticket.' Am I the only one who thinks that statement reflected a mindset of 'you're not really a part of our family'? I get that feeling with Laura Bush.

15. I think you could be right about Laura
I don't think the Bushs ever let anyone 'in' and spouses are outsiders their entire lives. If you divorce a Bush like Neil's wife, you are essentially dead to them. They treated her like dirt.

I watch Laura and can't imagine how she's put up with that oaf of a man for so many years. Just watching him eat would be grounds for divorce.

16. Laura seems like a decent person, the people on the main boards might hate her but
I feel kind of bad for her, like with Cindy McCain. These woman marry these drinking, bumbling, womanizers and then stick with them for the sake of their political careers and /or children and then end up shells of their former selves. At least with Hillary and Bill you never thought she was trapped. She wanted to stay. Laura and Cindy look trapped and sad.

Agree with you about Barack and Joe looking so normal. I feel like we really know them because they are so natural and easygoing...I mean Barack even posted his election pictures on Flickr! How down to earth is that?

17. I have mixed feelings about Laura
Some days I like her and other days I want to shake her, as no one can be that clueless. As for Cindy, I pretty much like her. I think McCain has treated her like crap, but I figure she's got the money, so she can do whatever she likes. It doesn't appear that they were spending much time together until the campaign.

Who knows. With any marriage, there are things you can't see from the outside. I hope Laura finds some freedom after they leave the White House. I've got a feeling GW may be spending a lot of time alone in the upcoming years.
