Vice President-elect Joe Biden is skipping all public appearances today to spend time with his family in Nevada, where his son is on leave from active duty with the Delaware National Guard.
BIden and wife, Jill, are joining Beau Biden, who also is Delaware’s attorney general, and his family, said Elizabeth Alexander, spokeswoman for the vice president-elect.
Beau Biden, 39, is bound for Iraq along with his unit, the 261st Signal Brigade, and has been training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
Hs is a captain and a Judge Advocate General's Corps officer -- a military lawyer. As such, he offers legal advice on disciplining soldiers and advises commanders and soldiers on issues such as wills and power of attorney.
Before leaving for training, Biden named his second-in-command, Richard S. Gebelein, to head the Delaware Attorney General’s Office.
When his unit left for Fort Bliss in October, a sendoff ceremony in Dover was attended by Joe Biden, then campaigning on the Democratic ticket with Barack Obama.
"My heart is full of love and pride," he said at the time.
