Happy Thanksgiving
Although I don't post here often, I check in almost daily. I want to thank all of you for your thoughtful posts and how often everyone supports each other. I am also thankful to come to place where people can disagree respectfully. JBSG is truly a special place on the web. Thank you all for this special home on the internet.

3. And a happy T-day to you, too, Muddrunner!
Yes, JBSG is a great place! I think the type of people that are attracted to this group speaks to the caliber of Joe Biden. ;)

Have a wonderful day, all! And remember, calories don't count today. That's why I've made 3 pies!! Apple, pumpkin & Kaluha chocolate pecan. :D

5. And the best thing is . . .
my husband doesn't like pecan pie. It's all mine! :9 Of course, when the top button on my jeans doesn't snap, I'll wish I had had someone to share it with! If you lived closer, I'd invite you over for a slice . . . or two!

I found this recipe online yesterday.

Boozey Chocolate Pecan Pie

This pie is unbelievable. If you only make one vegan dessert your whole entire life, it had better be this one.

2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
1 cup non-dairy chocolate chips or coarsely chopped chocolate
1/2 cup maple syrup or brown rice syrup or corn syrup
1/4 cup Kahlua or other coffee flavored liqueur -- (the booze is optional)
4 tbsp soy milk
2 tbsp cornstarch or tapioca starch
2 tbsp blackstrap molasses (I used regular molasses)
1/2 tsp sea salt

Preheat your oven to 350.
Whisk together the soymilk and starch until frothy. Whisk in the syrup and molasses, booze and salt. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well. Pour into a pie shell or a graham crust, and bake 40-45 minutes. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

I took this out of the oven this morning & it smells divine! I also melted a few choco chips & drizzeld a criss-cross pattern on the top of the pie. It looks amazing!

6. Booze is optional???
Oh I don't think so - that's what got my attention in the first place!

Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to copy it right now.

7. Be sure to buy some half-n-half, too.
A quarter of a cup of Kaluha isn't much, so you can sip a Kaluha & cream while your pie bakes. (I bought some vodka & made White Russians.)

I use to have some Kaluha cookbooks. I made Kaluha gingerbread people one year & everyone wanted the recipe! It was a perfect combo!

9. I like the way you cook
I'll add that suggestion to the recipe (as if I'd forget).

15. OMG! This pie was sooooooo good!
Very rich & sweet. Also, you don't need a very large piece. I'll be making this again!

8. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Two pies, here: Pecan and Sweet Potato :-)

My baby boy's first real Thanksgiving meal. He's one. So he got to eat some of the goodies. He seems to really like cranberry sauce (like his 3 year old brother). And mashed potatoes.

11. Hope everyone had a wonderful Turkey Day!
I cooked all day, and we ate in 20 minutes. Typical, but it was fun, and I am enjoying my time home. :D

We gave thanks of course, for our new President and VEEP. Hopefully better days are ahead for the USA. I cannot believe how expensive food is here, it's outrageous!

 to all my Biden buddies. :hi:

13. When we were going around the table giving our thanks - I gave thanks to Sarah Palin.
hehe - it was pretty funny, since my husband is in deep depression over the election.

Food has gotten outrageous over the last 6 months. Luckily they just opened a new food chain called Fresh n' Easy here - does anybody have those stores where you live? Mostly natural, healthy foods and very resonable.

How long are you in the states for?

14. When gas was going up, every trip to the grocery store was a shock!
My 12 ounce box of pasta that I liked went from $1.25 to $1.89 in about 5 months. Now that gas is back down, groceries still remain high. I guess we should be thankful that they aren't still going up.

Yes, hopefully better days are ahead!

16. I think it is a scam to artificially inflate prices
and you notice how they never seem to come down. :eyes:

Case in point, for comparison: (now you know why my eyes are bugging out of my head!!)

US $$ vs. Germany (euros)

1 lb. butter ~4.00 ~1,60
1 ltr. milk ~1.50 ~0,80
cheeses ~3.50 ~1,49
500g yogurt ~4.00 ~0,79
500g organic spaghetti ~3.00 ~0,99
250g jar sauce ~2.00 ~0,79
toilet paper 12 pack quilted ~5.99 ~1,49
6 pack paper towels ~6.99 ~2,50

Okay, so the Germans pay more for gasoline, but still, food prices are alot lower, in general.

19. pretty well
I've been really busy this week with family, friends, very little time for the internet. I come on first thing in the AM: first to JBSG, then cruise the headlines, laugh over GDP (infighting, etc) and then get the hell outta here.

Yes I am truly shocked at the prices of food. It's outrageous. Yesterday, daughter #1 and I were going to order a pizza, but we decided to cook. Between the two of us, we spent over $35 on food for dinner, we shoulda just ordered the damn pizza special!! It was 19.99 delivered!

Ugh.

20. I don't even go to gdp anymore.
Stop here first and then go to Huffington Post to get the headlines.

I am so sick of all the Obama bashing out there.
We're watching the European Music Awards right now. People are on stage wearing Obama t-shirts. It's being hosted in Liverpool and the whole place went crazy with applause for our President-elect.
The whole world loves him - except DU. Meh - I'm still on cloud 9 - even tho I don't agree with him on everything.

That is amazing about the difference in food prices.
I wonder why we are paying so damn much.

I thought food was generally more expensive in Europe. We're really getting raped in the U.S.
