3. No - I was here, just on the couch watching our wonderful, amazing President. |
|
That was so funny. And I'm glad Joe got a standing O after Obama said that.
Obama was amazing! I am so proud to call him my President.

6. I can't wait until the text is out. |
|
What a great speech! Holy crap! If he can accomplish half of what he talked about, he will go down as one of our greatest presidents.
Now it's time to switch to network so I don't have to listen to the talking heads tear it to shreds. Tomorrow Lou Dobb's will be in danger of exploding. I dislike him so much.

4. I want to ask you guys something... |
|
I got the distinct feeling that the President was talking about bringing jobs back home. I know he didn't say it outright.....and I know we have to be careful of protectionism, but I just got that feeling from a few things he said....
Maybe it's just my wishful thinking??

5. I recall two mentions of jobs: |
|
One was just a general mention that we can't build our economy without good jobs & the second was in his talk about electric cars & batteries specifically - he said something about the batteries being made in Korea or someplace & then said something to the effect of "why would we do that?"
I wasn't paying as close attention as those lounging on the couch, though, ;) so maybe there was more?

He mentioned something about eliminating tax breaks for companies that offshore....or something to that effect.
It seemed to be an underlying theme to me....but I know he has to be careful not to sound like a protectionist..
either way.....I have been slow to warm to the new President. Tonight I am fully on board. I can be slow to trust, but once I do I'm there for life.
Very impressive speech.

10. My favorite paragraph |
|
snip,
In this budget, we will end education programs that don’t work and end direct payments to large agribusinesses that don’t need them. We’ll eliminate the no-bid contracts that have wasted billions in Iraq, and reform our defense budget so that we’re not paying for Cold War-era weapons systems we don’t use. We will root out the waste, fraud, and abuse in our Medicare program that doesn’t make our seniors any healthier, and we will restore a sense of fairness and balance to our tax code by finally ending the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas.
snip,
This has impact on me in so many ways. I read through the whole text and saw so much I missed, but this particular paragraph hit me hardest. I know he talked in generalities....and the details need to come forward.......but I feel good right now about our future.

He was SO impressive. He's doing every thing right. It is good that he is keeping his face in the news all the time.

it was about companies that outsource jobs. I'm never going to buy another Peppermint Patty - they closed their plant and moved to Mexico!

12. Best line of the night |
|
We applauded wildly when he said it. About time Joe gets some credit!
It was a great speech. We watched it on MSNBC and they had a focus groups response on the bottom, which I normally hate. This time the republicans line was neck-in-neck with the Dems almost all the time. Several times it even went OVER the Dems. Never thought I'd see the day. Those republicans in congress better wake up and pay attention to what people really want.
