Biden at Whiteman AFB
http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics/story/1146813.html

"KNOB NOSTER, Mo. | Vice President Joe Biden had a succinct message Thursday for troops at Whiteman Air Force Base: “We owe you.”

Biden told the crowd that the Obama administration is committed to modernizing military facilities across the nation. That means nearly $18 million for Whiteman and more than $7 billion for projects elsewhere.

“As you sacrifice to serve our country, we should do a little sacrifice serving you,” he said."

1. Busy guy!
Why don't we ever see any of this on the news?

I mean - just give him one sentence.

The news is just becoming sensationalism. Even msnbc. They pick 2 or 3 stories and that's all they talk about.

2. It really is all about a couple of stories a day and the rest ignored
and not just because they're going in-depth on a few. It seems like the modern news model is to have different personalities cover the same stories over and over (e.g., same thing by Matthews, Olbermann, Maddow).

When I watched the world news as a kid (Rather, Brokaw, Jennings, etc.) there were many more stories, weren't there? Maybe they were glossing over some, but it seems like they covered so much more breadth.

3. And they did it in 30 minutes every week night along with a few Sunday shows.
Not this 24/7 infotainment crap. My husband likes to keep CNN on in the background, but I finally said enough. He can have it some of the time, but I get time with it off, too. We don't get MSNBC, but I think I would get tired of it, too. Like you said, the stories aren't any different, just who is reading them.

4. yeah, and maybe the network news broadcasts still do it in 30 minutes
but I don't usually look those up online. Seems like they're either being infected by or outcompeted by the other ones. CNN seems to try so hard to be the first at anything that they're happy to just jabber on and on with no confirmed or new info.

I don't have a TV, but sometimes I'll have the Countdown video from the previous day on while I do something boring on the computer. It really doesn't seem like much info per 30 minutes. I tried watching some of those shows when I was petsitting a couple of years ago (had just heard about them via DU and thought I should check them out when I had a TV). With commercials added, it was unbearable for me!

I wish NPR hadn't gone downhill. Maybe PBS is still OK - wouldn't mind having a TV for it once in a while for the longer documentaries.
