Biden is really getting beat up by the media.
Front page of my paper today about how Recovery.Gov is full of crap.
I posted that Wanted pic yesterday that the RNC is floating around. This is the new talking point, and unfortunately it is coming out of the mouths of dems as well...that the reporting on the stimulus dollars are not factual, and since Joe is the "Sheriff" he is getting the brunt of it.

For those of you that watched him on TDS, you know he explained very clearly why there are discrepancies.
I just hope the administration gives him the opportunity to explain it to a larger audience before this gets legs.

:(

1. Exactly
And that is why the White House needs to get Joe "out there" explaining these things as only Joe can do. The WH needs to start talking to the American people, directly and simply. Joe connects with people and is the perfect person to explain issues without the political double talk.

2. He is one of the few people in this administration that are able to do that.
I think they are so worried about Joe going off message or something - but the truth is, is that Obama put Joe in charge of Recovery.Gov and it should be Joe, and only Joe that explains what is going on.

I often feel like this administration does a terrible job of controlling the message.
They didn't do it on Healthcare, I thought they were going to frame the debate as it being a moral issue, but they never did.
The economy - Obama said it would take 2 years for the jobs to come in - but everyone has seemed to forget that he said that, and his approval numbers are suffering because of it.
And now this....

Excuse my ranting, it's just that when I pour my cup of coffee first thing in the morning and glance at the paper and see them going after Biden, look out - - pirhana is on the loose!

3. Not a good way to start a Saturday morning!
I think the White House is learning. Obama's approval ratings are fairly normal for a first term president. They start out high, then go down during the first year. Later they'll move back up, but meantime, they need Joe out there much, much more. As VP, he can take the flack for Obama like many VP's do and can reassure the public that things ARE working. Everything else that comes out of the White House is mostly going in one ear and out the other.

I knew the first year was going to be a tough one, especially following the worst president in my lifetime (probably worst ever). I'm so glad Obama picked Joe. Can you imagine if he'd chosen Evan Bayh?

4. Evan Bayh - he's against a public option - no I can't imagine.

8. They have not controlled the message at all!
Holy shit, haven't they heard of George Lakoff? Hire him & take back the message!

Biden really connects with the People, so why keep him on a short leash?

9. True
I am hopeful that they are learning from their mistakes. It is their first year and I'm sure they'll be doing some rearranging.

6. As a John Kerry supporter, I feel your pain!
It's hard to watch someone whose work and life you respect being a media scapegoat. But I really like the way you folks deal with it (I just come over and visit from the JK forum every now and then because your forum and ours are the most active around these parts!) You really talk about the issues as well as having fun. And it sure is great to be able to support a politician who takes his job seriously and is a good person, too!

7. Thanks
I hadn't thought about how similar this is to the way Kerry was treated after 2004. These are two of the most honest, decent statesmen we have and they've been maligned over non-issues, while openly corrupt and incompetent politicians get a pass. The fact that a large percentage of the population bought the hype is very scary to me.

Please drop by and participate whenever you're in the neighborhood!

10. Well said
I know both our guys are tough and determined and they can take it, but it's hard for us to watch.

And you're welcome over in our forum, too!

11. Thanks, will do!
I can't believe that the right and the media took the cleanest, most competent senators and rake them over the coals for nothing substantial at all. The John Kerry who fought in Vietnam and later fought against the war was an icon for many of us and it is pathetic that he has been treated so poorly.

12. Listen to this -
Edited on Mon Nov-23-09 11:28 PM by jillan
so I just went into the bedroom and Mark fell asleep watching faux news (hahaha - I could never fall asleep watching Faux - it get's my blood boiling) Anyway some guy was on Greta's show and had his panties in a whirl - they were talking (screaming) about Recovery.gov and how you can't audit that site and how could this administration spend all this money on a site that can't be audited.
I shut it off and did some googling.

The repigs are really trying to make something out of this. Here we are all debating healthcare and the repugs are in this alternate universe going after recovery.gov. With everything that's going on in the world - this is what they decide to attack - some website?

13. They're getting desperate
and going after the most irrelevant things, making an issue out of a non-issue. It is both amusing and disturbing. There was the BOW and of course, there is always ACORN, which they apply wherever they can. They are using the same old Rovian tactics, hoping that if they keep doing the same thing eventually it might actually work. It seems they can't get more pathetic, but they keep proving me wrong.

It is a bizarre time to be alive!
